So my 944 needs a new torque tube apparently and I don't have time to fix it right now.

I saw an add for a 79 924 in fort langley BC so I today went to see it. Sure enough it's the ghettoest porsche 924 I've seen but it runs and drives.

only problem it's a 79 and 2nd gear synchro is shot, you have to baby it into second gear but other than that the engine is smooth, doesn't overheat.

interior is shot, but has nice new sheepskin covers lol.

now the color, it's puke beige color that's faded and porsche script on the side. dash looks like someone took a sledge hammer to it.

car doesn't seem to be leaking anything. battery looks new but battery tray is rusted to shit.

now front looks pretty embarassing as there is a rusty patch in the fornt near the headlights I'm going to have to bondo and find matching puke beige paint to paint it so it looks less embarassing.

I'll post pics if you guys are interested in what my 400 dollar 924 looks like.

I'm just worried about the huge grinding in the second gear, I have to shift into second when at really low speed or else it makes a huge grinding noise. I guess you can always skip second and go into third from 1st if it gets totally busted.

oh and drivers seat belt does not look so if someone crashes into me i'll get killed. so if someone here has as drivers seat belt that works for cheap let me know.

tom I'm going to clay bar it , sand the rust spots in the front nose panel area and fill them with bondo / spray paint it.

I have a feeling my 400 dollar porsche will look decent, the rest of the body looks good with no dents. Interior actually lookd decent aswell with the beige sheepskin covers that match the paint lol.

Anyone know if synthetic oil in the transmission will help with that horrible second gear grind? And what thickness trans oil

it's a 79 5speed so I'm guessing it has the snailshellt transmission and not the audi unit. The shift patter is very odd and I had to get used to it.

You're kidding right?

You're an IDIOT ! ! !

Haven't you learned anything?

Since the 944 was running after you got it back, you could have driven it across the border, bought a used torque and had it installed before driving back, for about what you paid for your getto 924.

ok maybe you should stop being so rude.

no I'm not an idiot. I am going to buy a torque tube for my 944 but I don't have time to repair it right now. It's not like replacing a torque tube is an easy thing you can do in an hour or two.

I'm getting someone from rennlist ot help me replace the torque tube when I find a used one. there are a couple of people in the van area parting 944s so I'll probably find a used torque tube.

to replace the torque tube as you'd know, you have to drop the rear suspension, transmission/ exhaust.

now I have a car to get to work and school with so I don't have to rush to fix my 944 in a hurry.

also i'm sure I can still sell my 924 back for the 400 I paid for it if I decide to sell it once I get my 944 fixed.

I might wait till my christmas break from university before fixing my 944 because I'm pretty busy right now.

Does he affect everyone this way?

I was thinking about parting out my 944 first but now I decided to keep my 944 and get it fixed later on when I have time.

I don't see why this would be a bad decision. 400 bucks for any running car is not really a loss.

I don't have a clue what gohim is talking about. You can't just replace the torque tube in an hour or two it's a big job. Shop quoted me at 12 hours so a home mechanic with jackstands is going to take much longer than a professional shop.

so you're telling me in the states I can buy a torque tube and labour to replace a torque tube for 400 bucks?

so what 100 dollar torque tube and I guess it only takes 3 hours to replace a torque tube?

I don't think so.

Tim,

It really seems like you have a very serious problem with ADHD and/or dyslexia. Just look at your inability to listen to anyone, read and comprehend basic written words, multiple posts in the same subject within minutes of each other, mixing up letters, etc. All seem to point to someone who is unable to focus their mind and slow it sufficiently in order to interact with the outside world.

To be honest given the above behavior, what you said about the 924 and the 924board members on other sites and you're surprised at how people are behaving towards you?

I would strongly urge seeking professional help about your problems and understand that if you ask for people's help and opinions that you really should at least listen to it before discounting it.

dude...if you're not an idiot...i dont know what you are.
why the #### did you buy that 924? its the worst 924 year to buy for a daily driver as its probably full of rust...probably has a hot/cold start problem and as you said it has a stupid dogleg gearbox.

If you wanted something good you should have bought a late post 80 one...with no rust and an audi gearbox.

now it will cost you much more to fix this 924...and then sell it for peanuts just to get rid of it......oh...and beware !!! it has the fumes inside !!

i personaly with just my own hands and some basic tools can drop an torque tube & gearbox and replace the TT within a weekend day....and i'm a VERY slow mechanic. So you could have just taken a cab or your mum's car to work for a while.

Anyway....since you already bought it..the good news is that the snailshell gearbox can be taken off very easy..just unmount it from its TT and gearbox mounts and pull it back....so you can take it off open it and replace the second gear syncro. However if you do this you must also refresh the linkage bushings as if you dont it will eat your new syncro very fast. The bad news is that that syncro is very hard to find and very expensive.....and you could not do the gearbox job and it would take like a thousand or more dollars to get it done.

Good to see that you haven't abandoned us, Tim. Some of us were starting to miss you!

How's this for an idea? Remove the torque tube from your 'ghetto' 924 and plug it into your 944. Then lose the 924, as it's the ghetto-est one in history - no great loss!

Hilarious... just when you think there can't be any more...

Listen kid, little piece of advice for you... consider this... Wisdom is when you can learn from other mistakes.

You haven't even figured out how to learn from your own...
