A passenger tried to get out by clawing at the window switch with his fingernails????? He was unsuccessful but did dislodge the switch and now the window is inop - up or down. I have checked for voltage at the two wires to the motor (blu & blu/bla) - nothing with the driver side switch up or down. The key was on and the driver window works fine. I then jumpered from a hot terminal in the switch socket to each motor terminal with no results. Any ideas? Has this topic been covered before? The window is down (of course) and winter is coming so is there a way to manually crank the window up?

If it's a switch problem, you can get the window up by swapping switches temporarily with one of the others (all 3 are the same). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

-Or by applying 12v+ and ground directly to the switch connector pins at the passenger door..."A" and "B" are the pins to use (apply + to A and - to B to go one way, and reverse polarity to go the other way). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Current to drive the passengar side window must go through BOTH the drivers switch AND the passenger switch. A fault in either switch will cause the window to be unresponsive to both switches.
The quickest solution would be to run jumper cables from the battery to the motor with the trim panel off, but you may be interested in getting both drivers and passengar switches working in order to get the window to work. _________________ 78 924 NA

Thanks for the replies but perhaps I did not explain fully. The drivers side window works just fine. The drivers switch for the passenger window does nothing. Putting a jumper to either motor terminal (wires removed) does nothing.

I meant to say current for the passenger side window motor goes through both the drivers side passenger switch and the passenger side window switch. However, it sounds like if the motor doesn't respond to direct power, then you'll have to pull the motor out and fix it. _________________ 78 924 NA

Sounds like a motor problem.
I gave each of my motors a cleaning/relube and brought them back to life (they weren't dead - just slooow). I did it by removing just the 2 screws that hold the motor casing on. Once that's off, you have the armature, shaft, and gear sitting there in front of you, still attached to the window mechanism. I think you should be able to turn the armature by hand to move the window up, then maybe clamp a small vise-grips on some strategically chosen metal part/s of the mechanism to hold the window in place (obviously don't clamp the glass window directly or the the motors' armature/shaft).
-Or if you find that the motor is severely gunked-up and apparently fine otherwise, you might have some luck just cleaning, re-lubing, and reassembling it. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

sam ting. I removed the right door panel and then the motor guts, pretty much a corrosive mess. However, pulled the armature out, cleaned out the insides, and now she works. Howls like a cat in a wood chipper, but works. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
