Is a VW Audi 1.8t a direct fit on to a 931 clutch / bellhousing? _________________ Porsche 931/37 |

if I remember correctly the only engines that bolt on directly are the 5 cylinder NA models... not the turboed. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

From what I've been able to glean, most of the Audi motors share bellhousing bolt patterns, provided they sit fore/aft in the engine bay. This includes the V6's and V8's
If the engines sit sideways, then it would be a FWD based drivetrain and be more closely related to a VW than an Audi.
So an Audi TT wouldn't be a good choice since it uses the haldex AWD system from VW along with a VW style engine. But an A4 would be a better donor.
Now just because the bellhousings might physically bolt in place, the flywheels, clutches and starters may not be in the same spot, so be careful with that when looking at swaps.
Ultimately, my suggestion would be to find a salvage yard that will let you play around with various parts. Take a 924 or 924 turbo bellhousing and try it on some engines and see for yourself. _________________ Stefan

Thanks for the answer Fiat22turbo!
OT: Why do you have the Sami flag as your avatar? _________________ Porsche 931/37 |

No problem, glad to help.
I'm descended from Sami, on my mother's side (Erickson is her maiden name and great-grandpa was the one who emigrated to the US and helped build some of the great ski lodges) I thought it would be nice to show a little pride in that since they've gone to all the trouble to create the flag (and I think it is a pretty cool looking one, IMHO)
In some ways it is easier than dealing with the Irish side of my family's history and all that it entails.

OK!
I am Norwegian and my wife is half Sami!
Looks like I found a used 931 engine for my car, so this might not be done after all. Ihope! _________________ Porsche 931/37 |
