Alan,
Sorry for any confusion, I just edited my previous post - hope it now makes sense
Im just after what colour wires I should be looking for, and where I can locate them near the radio console.
Ive found a red wire, I guess thats the ignition(accessories), but now need to find the battery wire.

I usually run new wires from the fuse box for a stereo but you can tap them anywhere that works its up to you.
RED:- 12V Constant (Conectes directly to the battery)
RED AND BLACK STRIPED:- 12V Switched (is switched on by the acc on the ignition)
These are what I have found in my car but as it is different to what you have mentioned already (red being switched) you should check out the wiring diagram to be sure.
If you need a color coded wiring diagram go to pelican parts they have one free online (but I just quickly tried to find it for you and failed) or get the haynes manual for a black and white one. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

The wires might have been replaced in the past, so it's best to check them out with a multimeter or a testlamp. _________________ 1982 Porsche 924 na My 924 blog

There is an accessories terminal on the switch that activates when the key is inserted. However theres no terminal fitted to the connector on the 77s. Easy to get a 1/8" female lock tag connector and fit it in the appropriate hole. Then wire it to your red radio wire, via an inline fuse.
The wires Wombat mentions are 4mm2 (large) running to the ignition switch. Could tap into those but is probably easier and safer connecting to the fuse box. On the rear are some spare male pins protruding. Those marked H are constant 12V from the battery. So push on a female spade connector and run to the yellow radio wire. Definitely ensure there is a fuse in this line so no more fires.
The pins marked G are 12V switched (ign on) so you could hook one up to the red wire, via the fuse of course. If its a new stereo unit should have fuses fitted on it or the plug.

When I did my stereo install last year I installed a new heavy gauge wire directly from the battery + to the stereo main intake and added a new fuse box to it. Then connected the ACC to the wire from the ignition switch.
Keep in mind that todays stereo head units draw a lot more amps than the ones back in 70/80's so a new main wire is a simple precaution to avoid getting the original wire harness burned out. _________________ 1982 Porsche 924 na My 924 blog

I like this especially if installing a high powered stereo. I have also done this in the past when I was younger and had lots of subs... but I think I am a little more relaxed now and havent installed a stereo with subs for years. Must be getting old... _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

colors can vary a bit from the schematics, use a test meter to be sure... remember, just putting the key in the ignition activates the "accessory" power in these cars. key must be completely removed to find the constant 12v supply wire. _________________ Eric

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
Got it running only with a constant 12V red wire I found, so therefore, have to take the radio faceplate out to turn it off.
I'll try and locate the ACC as suggested.
