Oh cr*p - an intermittent noise is coming from inside the cam tower - sounds like a "clacking" or dull tapping noise when the engine revs down and approaches idle...
Everything seems fine except the engine seemed to run a little warm last night during the test drive.

Probably a failing lifter, but you should pull the access plugs and look around inside for loose parts that might have fallen off.
Complete used Cam Tower Assemblies are cheap, because often times in the case of an engine failure (broken belt), they are the only part that survives undamaged (salvagable/reusable).
I usually have two or three spares sitting around for that very reason. No, I have wrecked that many engines, it's just that I come across alot of damaged engines, and Cam Towers Assemblies are not that desirable or valuable (unless you need lifters, and you don't want to pay for new ones, or you have had a rare Cam Tower Component failure).
Cam Towers are not sold as completed assemblies by Porsche, and the individual parts are fairly expensive if you need new parts from Porsche. But the cost of used Cam Tower Assemblies only ranges between $25-$100. The last one that I bought on a lark around last Thanksgiving cost me $10. It's damaged due to lubrication failure, but will still yield some useful parts at a fraction of the new Porsche Parts Prices. |

Maybe I can find one for cheap in Hershey tomorrow?
Loose parts? - that doesn't sound good...

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd say check if it's your timing belt is loose and slapping against the cover. It will happen to warn you that it's too loose. Definitely a sharp intermittent clacking that will go away when the belt is tensioned. _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

Turns out the clacking noise was intermittent, and I traced it to the new strut brace rattling against the fuel rail. A tightened wire tie seemed to fix the problem for the most part.
Phew! - thought that was going to be an expensive fix.
