I bought US-model 944 for track-day-toy-project couple of months ago, and due to short-cut in ignition switch, I ended up with dead wiring harness inside the dashboard. My best wishes to previous owners for those DIY electric jobs.

Wiring harness has now been replaced (and all the unnecessary equipment like electric windows and mirrors removed), but little problem still exists: behind the fusebox is few (like seven or eight) abiko-style connections with big fat red wires going into them. What is the right order for those seven or eight wires - they all seem to be coloured in red, so...you get my point?

If any of you have similar car, and could help by taking a photo behind the fusebox, that would help a lot - and if some of you have been replacing those wirings, I'd be more than happy to get advice. Thanks!

I have the same engine - but a 924. So far Mine are all marked, albeit pretty hard to see - with a very thin line of another color. I do notice that Porshe liked to use a lot of Red with Black stripe wires.

Thanks - however I believe that your wiring harness is very different from the one in my car. Porsche did develop the 24/44 so that even MY 1984 has different electric schematic than MY 1983 has.

Is it possible that all those red wires just bring power to fusebox?

On the 924, there's a group of "H" posts at the rear of the fuse-relay panel. These are all 12v+ at all times (even with the key removed), and all receive solid red colored wires, and they can be in any order as long as they fit (some H posts are larger than others). One or more of them are directly connected to the battery, while the others are tapping 12v+ from the H grouping (the H posts are all interconnected within the fuse-relay panel).
Seeing as how the 944 wiring diagram also shows "H" posts with all red wires connected to circuit "30" (12v+ at all times), I think it's safe to assume that this much of the electrical system is the same between 924 and 944, so there would be no specific order for those solid red wires..
See the H post designations here above the battery - other H's appear throughout the rest of the wiring diagrams -

Smoothie,

Thanks - I hope it wasn't just a thing I wanted to hear, but the thing I needed to hear. I let you know when the smoke clears, either from the harness or the rear tires...

Basically I think early 944's and 924's are pretty identical when it comes to schematic, like in this case. Of course there are differences on ECU etc. wiring, but principles should be equal - at least I hope so.

Thanks again.
