I have replaced the solenoid and it worked fine a couple of times. Now it is back to staying engaged even after the engine starts. I have to pull the battery terminal to make it quit. Does this starter require some shimming that is missing ? _________________ Matt

Hook up a meter to the solenoid coil, #50 IIRC, and see if there is voltage when its running on. 12V (nom) means possible shorted wire loom to starter, faulty switch again, or some feedback/connection on the #50 line.
No voltage to the primary indicates the solenoid is jamming or shorting internally or the arm to the bendix drive is locking up, or similar.
Check all your wiring is correct and not bridged at the solenoid or starter. Especially the terminal and wire to the coil, if wired wrong you will latch the solenoid on with the ignition.

It won't hurt to have some insulating grease around the nuts holding the wires in place. _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |
