| Has anyone had any experience with sealing or refinishing the rubber spoiler around the rear glass? Mine is weathered but not rotten and I prefer not to replace it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks |

Skrilla mentioned to me at one point that motor oil is a good treatment for it. haven't tried it myself, but I'm contemplating it. _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

i like to use tyre black....just mask and paint... make sure you use a good quality tyre black..NOT the tyre shines (theyre silicon based).. the tyre black is the equivalent of semi temporary rubber paint _________________ 1979 NA

If it is really bad I am sure someone on this list has a spare to sell you.
Keep trying.
Black Again worked well with me.
I also used a product that a friend makes and I think it is the best. I used it once and it has lasted for years.

| Thanks for the replys. I don't want to use anything with silicon or oil because I don't think that would do anything except draw dust and dirt and wouldn't help the weathering. I'm thinking that I've seen some sealer that would help if I can get the rubber clean enough to start with. Maybe a few coats of flexible sealer and then some semi-flat black paint with a flex additive. If I find anything that works good I'll post it on this site. |

best stuff you can buy in my opinion, not cheap, but works wonderfully, not oily, and lasts a long time.. last bottle i bought was three years ago, time for a new one only now...

i requested a sample, they sent it no problem, and after using the first little sample, i went right out and bought a bottle of the aerospace protectant.. cant say enough about it.. _________________ Eric

Yeah I wouldn't think motor oil - petroleum products are generally bad for rubber (though it may depend on the type of rubber..). Silicone, on the other hand is actually a good preservative/treatment for rubber. -But if you're going to be experimenting with some type of paint, obviously don't use either.
As far as experimental topcoats, I'd try an undercoat - but -not- the common asphalt-based type. They dry looking brownish and don't have the kind of even texture you'd want on the spoiler.
This is the only one I was able to find that is truely rubber based and contains no asphalt (3M #08883) - http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MAutomotive/Aftermarket/Products/Product-Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LECFTDQCEK3_nid=1WGT0QN08Sgs6DTWTJQPBBgl19MNFMCQP3bl
I'd get a can of that and experiment on an old cracked tire first. Spray it on a section and let it dry.. Spray it on another section and spread or brush it quickly before it starts to dry, etc.. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
