Hey guys, my name is Chris and I just picked up a 924. it has an aftermarket turbo kit on there (BAE I THINK) and doesnt run. but I wanted a project car that would be a autoX/track car. plans are to get it running and use SDS for tuning for 200-220 whp. then work on tires and suspension to end it there. maybe a few things here and there. pics up in a few days, and I will most likely update this thread as my project thread.

Gee that gif is annoying. You might want to reserve those for when you're on the Honda forums.

Welcome.

You'll find this forum a little different from other car forums.

Thats ok, I'm just on here to try and help as well as get help. which will lead me to my first question.

The car also has MSD ignition (which I think may be the culprit) but when we got the car one of the spark plugs was broken in half. I then changed the spark plugs (checked gap, torqued in correctly) and after driving the car another once or twice the same cyl broke the spark plug again. Any idea why this happened? could it be the MSD is not wired up correctly?

Wow, thats a new one. Is something physically impacting the plug, is there damage to the electrode area? How's the exhaust manifold, any cracks around that plug that would blast it with heat? Do the plugs have silver electrodes? They will over-expand and crack the insulator is overheated.

thanks, haha. I personally thought it was sweet. The clip was from Top Gear when Clarkson was driving the new Audi and hammond sweeps around the corner with tons of oversteer. but once again if someone doesn't like it I have no problem taking it down.

anyways, when I was looking at the car again today (still not at my house) I checked to make sure the wires were hooked up correctly to the cap. and two of the wires were in the incorrect spots on the cap. so I switched them around... but now I need help figuring out the best tools to use to get the plugs out. I remember I fought with the two middle plugs for a long time. so a deep socket and what extension would be good for this?

So here is a 924 Porsche. I bought this from a friend who needed to get rid of it. when I sell this I will lose money, coming to realize this I want to have an autoX/track car for no problems raceway.

Exterior mods will be small and function>form, though paint is a must... I am going to open the front more so I can get more air for the radiator and future IC. a front and rear diffuser as well. some light 15 inch rims, and lastly some FOGS! haha Here are some initial pictures of the car.

For the motor... it doesn't run and I don't know why. the car tries to turn over but it doesn't. At first it needed a new battery, so I replaced the battery and it wouldnt turn over. I changed the spark plugs and they looked HORRIBLE, so now I assume the CIS (air/fuel system) is to blame. plans for the motor is to rid myself of the CIS and change to EFI. redo the horrible piping from the turbo kit and go to Fighters Garage for an I/C and piping. I also need to redo the exhaust which is the lamest excuse ever. pics of the engine bay:

turbo?:

in a few days I am going to have the car on jack stands and start pulling the head off to send it to S&P. I myself will start thinking of a solution to the lame piping.

Smell the fuel, if it's bad, drain the tank and flush the whole system.

Check the cold start valve to see if it is working (it's the EFI injector).

Pull the injectors, jumper the fuel pump relay and move the air flow sensor and verify the injectors spray.

Check the entire intake tract for leaks.

Regarding the turbo to inlet piping - on this model of BAE turbo they don't have a wastegate, so you'll have to leave that bypass valve in as it's the only way of regulating the boost.

for fuel, I was born without the sense of smell (no joke) but it was empty and I just put fuel in it today.

I'll check and see if I can find it and look for info on here on how to check to see if its working.

I'll get on the injectors, sounds easy enough

there is a BIG leak, and I'll edit this post to show you where. Thanks for your help man.

not a whole lot of time today but I wanted to get started. So I removed the spark plugs and spark plug wires, removed the 8 10mm bolts connecting the valve cover, and the two top cam cover connecting bolts. pics.

removed spark plug wires

the 10mm bolts and valve cover removed

top cam cover bolts removed (there were spiders by the bottom and I need to buy some insect killer before I get any closer.

oh, and a boost leak

I am going to the store to buy some degreaser, wrinkle black for the VC, and some 3/8 wrench for the head studs. Tomorrow I am going to try and remove the head with the intake manifold and turbo manifold in tact... we'll see how that goes.
