If so, what's your suspension/spring setup, wheel size, width and offset, and have you rolled the fender? Any clearance issues? If so, what are they?
THANKS! |

Im running 225 50 15 RA1s all around. Koni Yellow inserts in M030 housings (no spring perches) with a ground control coilover conversion kit with 10' 400# springs. Wheels are phonedials, 15x7 et 52.3, and I have not rolled the fender. Im running -2.5 degrees of camber and no clearance issues at all. When I was on factory M030 springs, the fender would rub the tire when it was fully loaded, but that was solved by raising the car and putting stiffer springs on.
When you buy tires, unless you are running 944 spec Id get the 225 45 15... Its a much better size for gearing than the 225 50 15. |

Awesome info. Thanks!! Didn't know they made the 225's in 45 sidewalls. I'll have to check that out. I have access to 225 50's essentially for nothing, so I'll be trying them first (instead of buying new tires at the end of the season if ya know what I mean...)
Did you mean 10 foot or 10 inch 400# springs? You have one dink next to the ten, did you mean a double dink?
Is the 52.3 late or early offset? (Sorry, I should know that...)
Are you talking about an early 24 or a 24S?
You're east coast? What tracks do you go to? I'm surprised we haven't met if you're running an early 24... |

Note on tire sizes vs rim sizes. In ITB we're restricted to 6" wide rims, even though we could fit larger. I've pretty much always run the 225/45/15's. One of my suppliers, also an ITB Volvo guy, says they went up to the 225/50's, since those were faster based on testing. Apparently with such a short sidewall, the 45's don't get the full contact patch on the road all the time with a 6" rim - too much deformation.
Of course, this is Hoosiers, don't know what rim size you're running, and I'm still running the 225/45's, but I might try the 50's next year; based on Mid-O testing, a slightly taller gearing would help a little there, and apparently it really improves cornering speeds... _________________ Vaughan Scott

There is nothing wrong with the 225 50s, especially if you canget a deal! The RA1, R888 and Nitto NT01 all come in the 225 45, and all three are essentially the same tire with different tread patterns.
10 inch springs, forgot to press shift
52.3 is late offset. The 924 uses early offset suspension with late offset wheels to clear the fenders. You can fit early offset (23 or so) wheels on but youll need to massage the fenders a bit.
My car is an 88 924S. I typically run with Audi Club and my friends company trackdaze. VIR, and the two tracks at Summit Point are my stomping ground, and Ive been to Road Atlanta once. I was hoping to another new track this year, but my rollcage cost about twice what I had budgeted.
Ive never seen another 924 (Or S for that matter) at the track actually, except at a 44cup race. I wanted to build a 2.0l 924 for ITB, but got a good deal on my car and the prospect of extra speed sort of convinced me to do otherwise. Soon enough Ill have an ITS 924S though... |

Ok, thanks for the info. I just received the mounted 50's back from the track today so I'll try fitment in the next day or so.
They're on early offset 6" cookie cutters, going on a car with 10" (*inch ) #400 lb springs with rolled fenders on which I have run 205/50's on the fronts for years. Based on what you're telling me, I s/b able to fit these 50's on the 6" rims w/no prob.
Give me a couple of days to get the cars moved around, the tires mounted, and I'll LYK what I find out.
THANKS! |
