Hey all,
so im getting ready for a roadtrip, FL to Ny, and back. ive been trying to arrange this trip for three plus years, and finally, finally, ive got all the details sorted ( i hope) and will be leaving tonight. thie difficulty in planning wasnt the trip, but what i want to accomplish..
im picking up my 78 924 and bringing it back. its been sitting for a LONG time.. on the way up im picking up a trailer in sc, which has been the biggest problem. i already know the wheels on the 24 are partially seized from sitting, so a dolly would have been risky without a complete tear down and checking the bearings on the car and all that. and i didnt have enough time for that stuff.. but i was finally able to find a full open trailer i could afford.
uhaul wanted a small fortune for a one way rental, and i tried that a few years ago, they couldnt produce the trailer i reserved... anyhow, for half the price of a one way rental, i found a what looks to be a nice open trailer that was just completely gone over , even comes with ramps..
i havent seen many of my family in several years either, and it all worked out into a mini family reunion, the whole family is coming form all over the country so im pretty jazzed about it all.. itll really be only the weekend, plus a couple days driving, but if all goes well ill get see my whole family and be back in fl by tuesday with my 78 in tow
then the real work starts as i have to decide what to do with it depending on the condition. its probably not the wise thing to do, but in the end i figure even if i decide the car is a total loss, i canstill sell parts and the trailer and make up most of the money i have to lay out...
but best case, i get it going again and have a bit of fun...
now i just hope they open the highways long enough for me to get by the fires off of 95 here in florida... nasty stuff... _________________ Eric

lol, id of had to leave a day before my first post...
I made it, picked up a very nicely done home built trailer in upstate south carolina, and drove on.. trailer makes my truck look tiny, but tracks great! Made the trip in 25 hours (1325 miles) including the detour west and a couple one hour plus stops . i winched the 924 out of the hole it sunk itself into from sitting earlier today, but didnt load yet, very heavy rains here...
the rear drums are seized up , but i did get them to break free somewhat. the tires still hold air, but are done for. shame, they only had about 2500 miles on them.
there are a few small rust areas, and allot of cleanup needed, but overall better than i expected and i think shes salvageable.. well see...
pictures soon.. _________________ Eric

Wanna pick-up a roll bar for me in Vestal, NY and drop it in Winchester, VA on your way home? I'll pay for your gas plus extra drive time.
John Hajny wants to send it to DC for pickup at Greyhound for $100 (2 hours away in a bad 'hood), or $187 to ship it Fedex.
