Hello all, I got my 82 924 a week ago, great car needs a little TLC and I am more that handy enough to give it. My question for you more knowledgeable owners, Is the 2.0 just a very noisey engine?
Do I have worn lifters or do they require regular adjustment like the manual claims? It is a steady ticking sound but it is not loud like I am used to with cars I have had in the past, I actually thought the injector system may have been making the noise but logic tells me otherwise. Are these prone to exhaust manifold cracks? There is plenty of oil splashing around under the valve cover, oil preasure is strong and even at 135,000 miles not even a hint of smoke out the pipe. Any opinions?

The 924 engine tends to be a little bit clattery and noisey, it was one of the main complaints about the car from contemporary reviews. Check your valve clearances to be sure they are in adjustment. Doubtful the noise is coming from the injectors as they spray continuously and are not sequential like more modern systems.
