I just picked up an 87 S from a local guy here, and one of the nagging issues was the lack of turn signals - The hazards worked properly, and all the bulbs were functioning, but no click click when I moved the control left or right.
First, I replaced the relay figuring that was the problem - still nothing.
Then I removed the fuse (which was good) and cleaned the connections - still nothing.
I started to get frustrated, figuring it was likely some sort of grounding issue at the fusebox (something I read here) and then I got in the car this morning, and the turn signals worked!
So, is there something I should know about these cars? Do they work on some sort of strange time delay? |

German cars have anti-gremlins that fix stuff while you're sleeping. They do this if they sense you truly love your car (on off days, they create shorts in Lucas electrics).
Growing up, my mom called them the "Mercedes Men" but they seem to be interested in Porsches as well.
Good luck! _________________ Toofah King Bad

I knew it!
Maybe they will fix my non-functioning hatch shocks, and dim gauge lighting tonight. |

I picked up my 87 924S last October, and one of the first things I had to do was tear the dash apart and replace most of the bulbs and improve the ground connections on all the gauges. There are a few brighter bulbs that are safe to use (including LEDs) that have a slightly higher wattage - check the threads for this topic elsewhere on this board. Too many watts and you will melt something.
My radio and clock stopped working the other day, and I messed around with the fuses, and found that a couple of the terminals on the fuses were slightly corroded. Cleaned a replaced a few old fuses, and now everything works again! Also - it appears that one of the PO's replaced all the 8 amp fuses with 16, and most of the 16's with 25's - DOH! Good thing I haven't had a fire yet. All fixed and safe now.
The hatch and hood shocks are also typical things that go bad over time.
Welcome to the world of 20+ year old German sports cars!

Regarding dim lights...after you've attacked all of the ground points, you might consider the LED upgrade. Little to no threat of overdrawing the aging wiring, and big improvement in lighting. Do a search for LED. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
