Hey all!

I finally got my first Porsche yesterday. It's a 1978 Porsche 924. It's in kind of rough shape but it has plenty of hope. From what I saw, there's no rust on any of the important parts (i.e. floor pans, door sills, under the battery, etc.) so I'm pretty psyched.

Who ever owned it before me pulled out the EFI system and threw a carb on there. I'm not too upset. From what I know about 914's and the cold, I figured the EFI system was still probably a little rough. The engine and tranny all seem to run strong. No clutch slipping or lash in the drive shaft.

I'm gonna start with the interior first since the drive train and exterior are in fair shape. The inside is pretty rough. I'm having trouble finding anyone that sells the inside door panels. I keep finding originals for $300 a side but I'm just trying to find something that's clean and not falling apart or even an aftermarket one. Any ideas? If I could get those cleaned up, it would look 90% better in there.

Also, my last question is what years of 924's are swapable as far as the interior is concerned? Meaning, can I put a 1987 924S Turbo's center console or door panel or heating controls on a 1978 924?

Thanks for any answers I get and I feel lucky to be a part of the 924 family!

(I'll post pics if you all like here in the near future when I get it home.)

Welcome to the insanity!

Just to get you off on the correct foot, it is called CIS, Continues Injection System, not EFI, Electronic injection System, which some have converted to.

You mentioned it has a carb rather than carbs. Is it just a single carb? I'd like to see it.

Door panels shouldn't be too hard to find. Post a WTB over in the sale section. Or you can build your own. I'll post pictures of mine soon.

Careful, this is a dangerous addiction that may suck up all your time and money with no known cure. There are no interventions here.

Thanks for the note on the CSI vs EFI part.

I'll double check the carb(s) thing tomorrow. I should have pics up by tomorrow evening if I don't get home too late. From what I can tell, it's a single carb. Probably double barrell but definately single carb.

I'd be interested to see those pics of your door panels. I'm really curious on how you'd go about making 'em. That may work out best. I've still got 'em, I just gotta make 'em look like new again.

My wife has been through all of this car stuff before. Sold my '03 Mustang GT that was my baby for a car for her and the baby. I've been stuck in her old Focus ever since and going crazy so she had to know this was coming. I hope she really enjoys her new car that may pony payed for. hehehehe

Ha! Thanks for the warning! Looking forward to it. Just looking through the past few minutes and I'm already dreaming of future projects! Gotta slow down a little bit and at least make it nice again (carpet, seats, etc..).

If you find an 87 924S Turbo, you'll want to buy the whole car because it will be a rare one indeed!

What color interior? I've got some brown/tan door panels off a 944 I'd sell, if you're interested. As well as some other interior parts.

The interiors are interchangeable with the 83-85 944. Interiors changed for the 944 on the 85 1/2 model but most changes had to do with the dash, electrical, and door panels, generally speaking. They moved the fuse/relay panel to an under-the-hood placement, making it easier to access. But items like carpet, rear interior pieces, seats stayed the same for the most part.

And the 87-88 924S basically has all the same interior pieces EXCEPT the heater controls. Also, the cabin fan configuration is different on them. But there are plenty of parts available for your model year. Just have to find them. Ebay will become your second home soon.

Hopefully others will chime in on the stuff I missed.

Like others have said, welcome to the madness.

Thanks for the input. So basically it goes:

77-88 924 & 83-85 944 Interiors all are swappable.
The only expception is the 87-88 924S's heater controls/cabin fan.

I'm still deciding on what to do for the color of the interior. I don't know if I want to do the original paint/interior or not. The paint was that copper metallic (95F) with a brown interior. I think I want to do Mars Red or Gaurds Red with a black interior. However, I'm really debating on doing the original color scheme.

That's basically correct but like I said, there's some small differences, mostly HVAC and electrical. I've found the headlight switches aren't quite the same, neither is the turn signal stalk and connection.

The arrest-me red is always a nice option but changing colors can be a challenge.

What color interior?

@Hook: If I do the metallic copper, I'll stick with the brown interior but if I do the arrest-me red, I'll do black. I think I really love the red and black idea.

@ROBB: I'm in Junction City, KS. Near Manhattan, KS. I'd definately be interested in those parts! If ya'd like, send me a message with the prices/items so I can weed through what I need/want.
