| Ok so the turbo now starts and runs with the new warm up reg on it ,that i got from special t auto (thanks john), but i,m having abit of trouble getting the idle to settle down , i can get the mixture about right on co tester and all the pipes that cause air leaks have been done ,but the idle won,t go below 1000 rpm. i,ve also had when the car has been running awhile and is warm, some white smoke which clears if i rev it, is this just because the car stood for about 4 years or should i be looking for other problems?, oil pressure runs at about 2.5 to 3 bar at idle (1000 rpm) does this sound ok. any help would be great. |

Does the air bypass screw on the throttle housing have an effect?
Can you close it without dropping the idle?

| Hi, i haven,t tried the bypass screw, as i thought that would mess with the timing as the car is an s2 , this is one of the things i,ve been thinking about as the manual doesn,t really explain it very well and i didn,t know weather to touch it or not. As i said i can get the mixture about right, but then the idle starts to rise. What about the white smoke , any thing to worry about yet?. many thanks Rik... |

Mine is a series 1 so I am not sure if S2 is the same. Once my mixture is correct, I can adjust the idle with the bypass screw, assuming the throttle cable has not been disturbed and is correct.
White smoke could be a coolant problem, head gasket perhaps.
Bet you could put the year of your car in your signature

That,s what i was thinking about with the white smoke, it seemed to start when the temp got warm and the fan kicked in, but that,s just my luck . _________________ 931 1982, PAIN IN THE ARSE,BUT GETTING THERE. 911 1976 2.7. 931 1981 S2(NON RUNNER) ALFA 156 SPORTSWAGON. |

ok. i,ve been back in the garage this weekend with the turbo, don,t think i,ve got a head gasket problem, just a lot of air in the system. One thing i have found strange is if i start car up from cold ,it starts find (apart from idle to high) but when it gets warm it starts blowing some white smoke ,which i,ve already said about ,but now i,ve noticed a burning rubber smell (which it did the first time) and by the time i,ve finished going oh shit where,s that smell and smoke coming from ,it,s stopped and car,s running ok . what can the burning smell be ?. I thought it was something to do with the alternator as that stopped charging when it first happen, but now for some strange reason the alternator is charging again and the smoke and smell are still there. Any ideas?. _________________ 931 1982, PAIN IN THE ARSE,BUT GETTING THERE. 911 1976 2.7. 931 1981 S2(NON RUNNER) ALFA 156 SPORTSWAGON. |

Check you alternator belt tension and make sure your ground wire from the alternator to manifold is installed and in good condition. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
