Thinking about having the 1987 924s repainted Its black now, i live in california and it gets really hot.

Should I go with white or red? Any suggestions?

Bright yellow, with a double black stripe down the middle.

Maaco - you get what you pay for - a $300 paint job is just that. Would be OK if you have a pure track car that needs to painted every year anyway.

I got quotes from a few decent paint shops around here, and most wanted $4k-$5k to do it right, with a base and then a clear coat. One guy would do it for $2,500 if I took all the bodywork and trim apart and brought it in on a trailer ready to be prepped and painted.

A lot of body shops will not even do a straight paint job now, because they are so busy with repair/insurance work.

You should know that if you repaint your car a different color the market value will drop about 15-20%.

Not a concern if you plan on keeping your car forever, but if you plan of selling it, you should consider the consequences.

As bcblase said, you get what you pay for when it comes to paint jobs. I had an MG that had a Maaco/Earl Scheib type paint job about a year before I bought it and about 4 years later, it needed new paint.

As for painting it another color, you mentioned white as on option. I have found that white gets dirty pretty quick. Silver, though not an eye-grabbing color, does a great job of hiding a dirty car.
