Well it's not supposed to rain today so I thought I'd get the 924 out of storage and drive it today but she had other plans...
Normally when I start it, it fires right up and warms up in a few minutes. Today, however, no dice. It fired up and immediately revved up to about 3000 rpm and then died. I tried several more times and almost got it to stay on but it was idling so rough, I thought the engine was going to vibrate out of the engine compartment and fall out. It's never done this. And I mean the engine REALLY was vibrating! I even heard a few bursts of air that sounded like I have NOS and the lines were purging! WTF!!! That only happened 2 times while trying to start though. Needless to say, it stayed in the garage for today. Any suggestions? WUR, injectors, accumulators are all new and never had problems since they were replaced. I've done fuel test recently and all was well, but something is definitely wrong now.... _________________ Michael

Never thought of that one. If this is the case, is this normal? And what is the remedy or prevention? I have noticed that when I start the car after sitting for a week or so, moisture does spit out the tailpipe at first start up. _________________ Michael

Not all that common - maybe you should stop storing it in the boathouse?
Did that fix it? _________________ Vaughan Scott

A light misting of WD40 inside the cap can help this issue. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Sorry Vaughan but the only thing in the garage is the 924. The 28' cuddy cabin Sea Ray and 67 427 Cobra sit outside all year around, uncovered. I do have my priorities! I'm bored at work today so I think I'll take off the afternoon and play with the 924. I'll try misting some WD40 like Rasta said. This hasn't happened with the car yet, I'm hoping this isn't going to start a trend each time I want to get her out. If this doesn't work, I guess I'll have to start with a fuel flow test and injector spray test and see where that gets me. If you see a big ball of flame from Indy, assume I did something wrong! _________________ Michael

I would also inspect the timing belt. Might have jumped a tooth if it getting worn and dried out. _________________ 1976 924

Think I figured it out. There was a hose coming off the back of the intake manifold that didn't have a hose clamp and came loose enough to create a vac leak. The burst of air I heard must have been the hose blowing off cuz as soon as I reattached it, it fired right up and ran good. I guess there was more air going thru that hose that I thought. Wish they were all that easy. I did spray some WD40 in the cap and it seemed to start better than normal when the engine is cold. _________________ Michael
