I just bought a 84 944 and am quikly learning alot. My question is this....Ive got 12 volts going to the distibuter cap from the ignition coil but no spark coming out. what could be my problem? Ive already replaced one of the two sensors mounted to the intake, and the other was good. any help would be appreaciated. _________________ 1984 944 |

12 V on the king lead? That's not right! Sounds like you've got a shorted coil. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Glad I found this place I know its not a 944 board but it seems like a good place and you guys really know what your talking about. A guy at the autobahn.com told me I should try here.
If my speed sensor and reference sensor had gotten switched around by mistake would this cause my problem?
I would just switch them to find out but im not sure if it would cause other problems if I did this and its not the problem. _________________ 1984 944 |

I'm out of my depth with 944 speed and reference sensors.
I suggest you follow one of Paul's links to find someone with experience closer to your area... _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Again no idea about '44s but as above, there should not be +12V on the dizzy cap. There should be +12V to one side of the coil and then the coil is triggered by earthing it, normally carried out by the ECU, but that depends on the setup. On a '24 its done by the Transistorised Control Unit, on a '44 I have no idea.
I would start with another coil and see what happens.
Good Luck

I swapped coils and dmes with known good ones and did a resitance check at the plug that goes into the back of the dme and found out that im not getting a good connection at the speed sensor connection on the back of the intake. hopefully today ill have it running. _________________ 1984 944 |

was the speed sensor, it wasnt getting a good connection at the plugin. I filed some corosion off and plugged it back in then had to tap on the fuel pump to get it running. The car sat for 5 years in a garage before I bought it. _________________ 1984 944 |

Check the timing belts, a lot of us replace them every 3 years or 36000 miles..... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
