Well, as some of you know, I have had a problem with my oil ( lots of gas in it) and I decided to change it/clean it. I love every thing about the 924 but, could have Porsche put the oil filter in a better place? I can barly fit my arm between the altenator, altenator cooler/hose connecter, suspension, and exhaust. If you try to reach it from the underside, you cant. It is blocked by a body support. A strap wrench wont even fit on the filter (without lots of work anyway). I found that grabing my hammer, screwdriver, and makita drill was the best way to remove it. Has anybody found a better way to reach it?

Skinny armed kid down the road?

No I've never really had an issue with the oil filter on my 79. I never use a wrench, the filter ends up too tight after 3k miles (1/2 turn after seal meets base). This way the filter will come off with a slight twist of your hand.

No fear as long as you give it a good turn, When I was young(er) and worked at a quick lube joint I never had a filter come off unwanted. But did we ever curse the b@stered that used a wrench to put it on.

I only use the wrenches to get them off, then I hand tighten them!

2fast,

When you go to put the new one in, you can invest in a little part that will save you all this hassle in the future..

Basically it allows you to re-locate the oil filter

Here it is:

The TD's are supposed to be quite good gear, but as pointed out to me by Roger they don't have take-offs for things like oil temp senders, additional oil lines down the track (adding a turbo or supercharger).

I've ordered one of these

The K&W filters have a nice hex nut on the top of the filter to make it easy to get a socket on it. There may be some other brands that include the hex nut also.
