A completely assembled engine minus the head (essentially). This obviously precludes the camshaft and cam drive on an overhead cam engine too.
So, engine block, pistons + rings, con rods, crank shaft, oil pan, etc.
Contrast this to a long block, which is a short block plus the head, which is essentially a completey assembled engine (minus the intake, fuel supply, etc.). _________________ 78 924 NA

I just think of it as an engine with no head/heads. A long block includes the head. _________________ 1976 924

Vince, I've got a complete engine in my garage that came out of my 1980, but it would be deadly expensive to ship that far. Let me know if you can't find anything else. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

ah...we call it a 'lower block' ...the underside of the engine...
but short block makes sense
but short is a longtitude dimension in my head... so shorter made me think like euh.....3 cylinders or something like that _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

Thanks for your help all. I am permanently in Florida. In four months I wore long pants 4 times and three of them was to go to a party.
Shorts and a tee are rules of the day. Everyday. Ask 924Guy. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
