Greetings,
Finally I have time to start playing with my 924 again. I decided to attack the body, which has led to a few questions.
1. There is a hole in the RH (drivers) rear 1/4 panel, it is about 20mm diameter, just behind the fuel filler. Any ideas what it's for?
2. I have a carrera body kit, but the front bumper has been on the worse side of a bit of cross country driving, so I am having trouble getting a even gap between the bumper and panel between the headlights. To complicate matters this panel between the headlights seems to be sitting off to one side. Is it difficult to move this panel. And how much of a gap is normal between this panel and the bumper?
Cheers

Hiya,
1) You mean on the outside?? No idea. I did see some pics of a factory alarm with external keyed operation, but I think it was situated at the front of the rear qtr panel (ie below and to the right of the filler).
2) You mean the nose/header panel right? With the badge on it? Some of these are spot welded on (like mine was). So moving it is a bitch. There's about a 10mm gap between my panel and bumper - but it's not uniform in my case - I'm sure it's supposed to be

Yep, the hole is in the body, it is rearward of the fuel filler.
It is the nose/header panel, after looking would say mine is spot welded too. Do many others have a uniform gap? If not which side is lower, on mine it is the right. _________________ '78 924

I'm sure the header panel/bumper gap once used to be uniform... and with appropriate percussive maintenance could be brought back in line...
My only guess on the hole is an alarm key, but it's in a different spot to where I saw the factory option... Should be easy enough to fill. I'm trying to find the info on the alarm, but I can't at the moment...

I think this is the factory option:

To all of you who are attempting to replicate the GT I am suggesting that you put on 944 fenders and front valance and save yourself a lot of headaches. Everything fits the way it was intended. As for the flares good luck on making them fit right. I used GTRacing flares and although they look nice I had to make them fit perfectly. Yes, they did crack after a year or so.
Take it from me the above is the easiest and best way to accomplish the project. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
