|
|
I am being offered the rear anti-roll/sway bar from an M30 944 Turbo.
At the moment my car does not have a rear ARB, but inspired by Chrenan's installation, I'm thinking of doing the same.
I'm just a little apprehensive about what might happen with a 22 mm rear and a stock 924 front ARB.
Can any of you guys help out? _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Well, you'll get rid of some understeer; that's for sure.
Personally, I can't often go fast enough on public roads to see much difference in the anti-roll setup. If you do see the difference and it does make the car unstable you can always simply disconnect the links. _________________ John

. . .and if you later decide you don't like the balance, you can later increase the front to 23mm (M471).
Be careful in the rain till you have a good feel for it. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Is the rear bar really 22mm? Seems thick given that the 968 M030 bar is 19mm, although the 968 version is 3-way adjustable. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Per the Pasha suspension prep article, the largest factory bar was 87-88 M030 944S at 20mm. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Hmm Good point, Chrenan.
I haven't actually seen it yet so I don't know for sure.
It's being offered with 26 mm torsion bars from the same car (944 T M030). Is that credible? _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Pretty sure the sway bars on my 944 T (1987) are 25.5mm front and 16mm rear. Mine has the yellow Koni's all round, which I think is the M030 setup. The whole 944 thing is still new to me. I've measured the sways with calipers, so I know that is correct. In the 87 and later 944 T they switched to a larger hollow 26.8mm torsion bar, so the rear sway bar actually got smaller. The earliers Turbos had an 18mm rear bar.
Mr. Pasha explains it all here:

I think the guy on Ebay made a mistake with the front one.
It is not M030 because those have three holes in it (adjustable). _________________ 937 trackday car

Oh, and since you don't mention cost, you may be interested to know that factory new sway bars are pretty cheap for what you get. . .the adjustable 968/M030 unit is particularly attractive for $150. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Its only the rear bar that has three adjustment holes.
If you drive the car for real ( on a track for example) i think it will be quite a lot of oversteer. The pitch vs roll resistance will be messed up if only changing the anti roll bars. Its recommended that you change springs and torsion bars/springs to.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Woah, it's all too confusing for me.
It seems that no two P-cars out there have the same combination of front, rear ARBs, torsion bars, shocks, springs, etc, etc...
It's a moot point now as I'm not taking up the offer. I'll bide my time... _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)
