Hey guys,

I'm stripping out the quick fix - direct to battery switch, the PO put on the horn.

Im a little new to wiring diagrams, but trying and keen to learn.

Here's what I have at my horn relay. This means the horn is on as soon as the ignition is on. I checked this and sure enough when I turn on the ignition I can feel the horn relay "click"

Here's what the diagram says it should be:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/924_78_4_2.jpg

It seems I have a permanent ground which is not right...even when removing the horn pad.....needs looking at. I will trace the ground from the relay.

i also have grounded the steering column, and checked the little brass connector on the back of the wheel for good contact.

Had a good read of this where smoothie and lizard help diagnose a slightly different problem with the horn relay wiring. http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=21543&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

Could someone please confirm if the other feeds to my relay are correct? I think they are.

Thanks everyone,
Tiny

Actually, yes you're right.

I have checked and my wiring is like this, taken from the haynes which lists the 81 & 82 models horn wiring:

So I am thinking that I need to check if the brown ground wire that connects to pin 86 on the back of the relay board (horn relay socket,) is connected to the wire which comes up to the indicator stalk connector and connects to the brass horn contact.

Currently a fixed ground is present at pin 86. I think this is my problem?

thanks,
Tiny

86 should not be earthed until you press the horn contact.

87 should only have 12v when the horn button is pressed and the relay energises (clicks)

the other 2 look ok.
