"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:"

Specifically, getting ONE 924 started again after a year-and-a-half in stasis...

So, my plan is this:

1. Drain year-and-a-half old fuel from the tank. Replace with new fuel (98 RON BP Ultimate, natch'). Add Nulon Octane Booster.

2. Drain fuel lines (haven't quite decided how... enlighten me! I'm thinking pull the lines from the fuel dizzy and run the fuel pump 'til they're clear?)

3. Replace fuel filter.

4. Drain year-and-a-half old oil. Replace with new oil (Mobil 1, natch'). Replace oil filter at the same time.

5. Inspect (and let's face it, I'm gonna replace) the spark plugs.

6. While replacing plugs, add just a tad of oil to the cylinders (a "tad" is a little less than a "bit" but a little more than the "skerrick" that is in there now...).

7. Hand-crank the motor for a few revolutions (How many? Or should this even be done? What haven't I thought of?).

8. Replace battery (old one is, well... old!)

And that's it! Cross my fingers and hit the key!

What haven't I thought of, good sirs?

I dont think the word enlighten should be used in this context

Did you put fuel stabilizer in the tank before you tucked her in?

If so, don't worry about the fuel.

Why replace the plugs?
If they were good before theyre hardly gonna wear out just sitting there.

If you have any crap in the fuel system it will only block a new filter. Personally would start and run it for a while (conservatively) to circulate the fuel and trap the crap in the old filter. Then change it.

Is the tank full of BP Ultimate?

Don't change the oil yet.

Add some new oil to get some fresh oil on the lifters.

Is your timing belt in good condiiton?

Remove the plugs and squirt some oil in.

Pull the wire to your over boost switch and crank it with the starter until you see the oil needle move.

Install the plugs and over boost wire and start it.

Warm it up good (10 miles at least), then change the oil

OK, got a new fuel filter, new oil filter and new oil. No new plugs... yet...

I don't disagree. I just don't like the idea of leaving the old plugs in. Why not just get new ones?

Agreed. Didn't think about it that way but it's exactly what crunchie 57 told me to do. And so I shall.

Yes (well, not full, but it's BP Ultimate in there). I will top up the tank with fresh stuff. Should I do this before or after I get it running and/or change the fuel filter?

Paul wrote:

OK. It is Mobil 1 in there now (as it always has been). I strongly suspect that stuff wouldn't degrade significantly over a hundred years, let alone one or two. I was just going to do an oil change anyway, figured I do it before I try to start the car but I'm not overly worried about it.

OK.

Well, it's practically brand new. Wasn't changed more than a few months before I left, so it's still well within its 3-year recommended lifespan. Looks good from visual inspection.

Yeah, was gonna do that as mentioned above. Not too much, though, obviously.

Yeah, again, crunchie 57 said the same thing (which I will do). But he recommended removing the dizzy-to-coil wire and didn't mention the overboost switch wire. Can I do either or should I do both? Or the overboost switch wire only?

OK.

Pulling the overboost wire kills the fuel pumps so you won't flood the motor with gas.

In regards to the gas, siphon out a quart or so into a clear glass container and see if it still is clear and still smells like gas.

Minor setback... They gave me the wrong battery! It's the right size but the terminals are reversed! Grrr... now I have to wait 'til tomorrow so that I can go and exchange it...

EDIT: Found another battery... it's alive! IT'S ALIVE! Bwahahahahahaha!!!

Thanks for the instructions Paul (and crunchie 57), she started up, no trouble! Purrs like a kitten. Temp. gauge is rock solid. Oil pressure at 2 bar at idle.
