Looks like something I would use to change valve springs. Not that the diegrinder would be included in that.

HA Ha ha

Prefer the LONG NOSE pliers myself, but that would certainly improve the air flow.

Been some good guesses there but no one has got it yet. The die grinder is used here. Maybe a clue in the first WTF is this tool thread.

Clearly this is the jig you used to trim the lip off your spring retainers. The flange on the die grinder stabliizes the tool on the end of the cylinder, while the spring retainer is held in the other end and is ground down.

Then how about -
For grinding the ends of the valve stems?
-And the cylinder's got paper taped around it in the first pic to keep particles out of the cyl head..

YES Smoothie, now you`re barking up the right tree.

Thats exactly what its for. 1 1/2" tube is a perfect fit in the lifter bore and the top of an old 35mm film (remember that stuff?) canister is a tight fit in the tube. A 8mm hole punched in the centre is a good seal around the 9mm valve stem.

Took it easy with the grinder in small circles then vacuumed out, cleaned thoroughly with a lightly oiled rag and special foam tipped buds used mainly for cleaning video heads. Final blow with the air gun and I trust no grit got in my engine.

Another of those new cam, new lifters, seats cut, valves lapped, and leave it high to take up the clearance on the old reground cam/lifters PITA situations. Needed at least 11thou clearance but could only get 3, on some exhaust valves, that were sunk slightly more for a wider seat. Took them down about 0.2-0.3 mm and about .1 (4 thou) on the inlets to face out the gouges left by the adjusting screws. Made them all quite consistent and had from 15-18 thou with the screw at a minimal safe point.

Readily admit this problem had me scratching my head but after a few beers and a good night sleep came up with this idea for a useful way to waste the rest of the weekend. Amazed how well it worked too, and am very happy with the result.
