Ok, quick question. On top of the valve cover I have an L shape intake pipe that I believe connects to the throttle body. Where that connects, there is an O-ring. I dont think its working because I can pretty much pull it out like a rubber band and look in the gap.
Would this be the source of a pretty serious vacuum leak?
I have ordered the haynes, but cant wait for it to get here. Every 5 minutes I am outside looking at my car and messing with shit under the hood. Not really messing with it yet because I dont have the book. More like holding a beer and saying "yup" trying to look cool for my 17 year old son.
If it is a vacuum leak, where would I get that O-ring from?
I am sorry, I would have searched, but I have no idea what the piping to the TB is called. _________________ 82' 931 5 spd (not sure which tranny)

Classic!
As for parts, http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=2263 some are out of service but get to know the best ones like Performance Products.
And if it is an intake pipe, I would imagine that's where your vacuum leak is coming from.
It's a good idea to wait for the book and post questions in the mean time. |

Thanks for the link. Ill keep asking as long as no one gets angry with all the questions. I have a million of them.
I am going to take the valve cover off next weekend to adjust the valves and it would be a perfect time to change the O-ring on both sides of the piping. _________________ 82' 931 5 spd (not sure which tranny)

1. Questions are fine and we're fine tuning a new site that answers all of the re-occurring questions like, "how do I change my oil?" and "why can't I sell this car for $35,000 when the Boxster next doo is for sale for $39,000?"
We do ask that you search your question first as many, many topics have been covered. If you're looking for "Neil's awesome car that was for sale last year" you would enter "Neil and car and sale", that way all words must be in the thread {or topic title, if you choose that option}.
Other than that you can type Neil car sale and you'll get any post {or title depending on your selection} with any of those words in it.
2. Have you ever adjusted valves before? Do a search, I can't recall off hand but I think there's a trick to it.

Never adjusted valves in my life. However I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night.
I worked the night shift last night and all I did for 12 hours was read on here about how to adjust them. I must have looked at literally 200 posts last night on the valves. _________________ 82' 931 5 spd (not sure which tranny)

On a side note Neil. I am a pretty good web developer by trade. I would be happy to help with the site or any web work you all need done. _________________ 82' 931 5 spd (not sure which tranny)

Is your boss giving you that raise!?
I can't recall if it's difficult but I doubt it, the 924 is fairly easy to work on {for most tune up items}.

Your 931 S2's connection between the charge tube and throttle body seals with two rubber pieces. The main sealing is accomplished by an orange or red o-ring that's hidden when the joint's together. The black one that you see isn't as important for the seal. It would be good to have a look at the inner red-orange one though - they do sometimes split. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
