I am looking on to my next upgrade and that would be to have a 5-speed transmission installed in a 78' 924 NA. I currently have the 4 speed and due to highway driving I would love to have the extra gear. What transmission would be available ,with the easiest install in mind? I will be replacing engine gaskets over the next few months(winter is coming). I would prefer to keep the car out of the salt in Minnesota's winter months. Also, due to the bad gaskets, is there anything else I might consider checking/replacing while the engine is being looked at?
Thoughts please.......... _________________ 924 work in progress |

Your easiest option would be a 81 or 82 924 NA 5speed. This would pretty much bolt up with just a shift linkage change. The 82 turbo unit or a 944 trans will work also but you need to change out the torque tube and clutch disc.

thanks Todd for the quick response. With the availibility to keep costs down, would you happen to know what other Audi/VW cars might have this same transmission? If any. _________________ 924 work in progress |
