|
|
So after a long "break" I've gotten my car home from storage. Though I am still having issues. With a good battery the car will turn over, and I sprayed some injector cleaner on the intake and it fired! Front end seems ok... There was some water seepage from the PO and it has affected the fuse & relay box.
I got a new fuel pump relay, there is power there but none at the pumps. This says to me there is a problem with the wiring. With most the other systems working (minus a new headlamp relay) I don't want to try to replace the whole box, and thus the electrical system. The idea I was talking about with some friends was to run a new power lead to the pumps with a cut off switch. This lead could even be run from the ignition for greater safety. And of course run a new ground to the pumps.
"Turn on the gas stupid!" is one of my favorite motorcycle quotes.
I'm fairly sure someone here has done this. I just haven't found it in the forum.
Additionally I want to be sure I don't do it backwards, I'm assuming the blue lead is the live from the ignition and the black is the ground (plug at the pump). Is this right? What size fuse should I use for each pump?
The good news once I get power to the pumps I can make sure they are working correctly....
Thanks in advance for your input! I'm hoping the weather holds and I can do something with it this weekend. _________________ 1982 924 ~pics coming.... soon |

On the later models the pump will only run when cranking or if the engine is running.
They will not run with just the key on.
The technical section has lots of answers about this and bypassing the relay for testing. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Thanks Ozzie, I didn't realize that was the case. I'll check out the tech section and let you know how it goes. _________________ 1982 924 ~pics coming.... soon |

| I have an 82 and live in northern california also. Plus I have a factory manual for the car. I built mine from a truckload of boxes. Let me know if you'd like to have me look at it and show you some of the tricks I discovered. Once you understand the current flow, it gets easy. |
