Hi there,
I just joined and wanted to give a quick hello and an introduction.
I am new to the Porsche and was actually given a 924 by my father-in-law about 2 months ago. He said it was a 79 but the door tag says Oct 78.
He bought the car 7 years ago with big plans and just like the other of his"big plan" they get put on the shelf and forgotten. The car sat in his shop for 5 of the 7 years before it was moved to his field and forgotten. The poor thing was in decent shape when he picked it up and he played with it for about 1 week and then just lost interest. The sun did allot of damage and dried up the once good seats and dash. But I am on my way to fixing all of that. it just needs some attention, TLC and paint.
I have gone through most of the car and have even started doing some modifications. I picked up a fiberglass 944 Turbo front end for $50 that needed some minor repair and just finished putting it on. I also just added a 944 rear spoiler and can not believe the huge difference these items have made!
I will find some pictures and post them as soon as I get home later. This weekend I will be taking the car to the body shop for some touch up and new paint. I am still trying to decide what color I want to go with. The car was a dull silver and I quickly sanded that down, fixed some rust spots and is now a fancy primer Grey. Any suggestions on colors? not sure if it is a cool thing to do but I am kind of leaning toward a Toyota color I seen the other day. It's a dark blue that looks almost black except in the sun any thoughts? Any way.. I will also be adding some new rims and tires this spring but from browsing this message board I am learning that I will need to somehow upgrade from the 4-lug to a 5 lug set up.
So far I am finding allot of valuable information on here and I look forward to learning much more from all of you as time goes on and I get closer to finishing my 924 project.

Take care

WN

Welcome!

Had your Porsche for seven years? You should have come to us earlier. You could be driving it by now!

Some may say it has to be a factory color or whatever.. but i think you should paint it what ever color floats your boat, you'll enjoy it more that way.

welcome to the fold, when will we see some pics of your project?

I think my idea of sports car colors go like this.

Black
Yellow
Red
Silver
White

I like solid colors. Just my taste.

If you can't make up your mind, paint each bit a different colour.

Paint each panel a different color? VW did that a while back on a special edition.

Battleship gray is nice as 924guy said that it will float your boat.

I painted my turbo a 80s color you don'tr see much of.........Cassise or metallic mauve. The translation of the word is black cherry.

Paint it any color you want. DO NOT buy paint using a paint chip as they are rarely the same.

Vince, youre talking about a VW Polo "Harlekin" !?

They were sold in germany and each bodypanel was painted in a diffrent colour.

But back to the 924, me my self and i
would paint it i a real dark-brown,metallic, plus flakes and clearcoat.(2X)

Harlequin.

Either the guy in the VW paint shop was colour blind or, to save time, VW just put the panels on in the order they came instead of matching the colours!

I live on the coast, so I'd go for white with a red diagonal stripe!

haha there is a MKIII golf running around my area like that....except i don't think they know about the special edition polo at all.

Volvo actually has some really cool colors, back when i had my MKII GTI i was going to paint it and i just went to all sorts of dealers looking for colors.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the color suggestions.
I cant wait to get this thing on the road! In 2 weeks I will be taking it to the body shop and I will have to make a decision on the color. My dad is pushing me to paint it the dark blue that is offered on this years model Caymen S.
That by the way I just learned that he just ordered! He will be picking up in January. He eded up getting the dark green. That should be a fun car for him!
Anyway, I will do some thinking and make a decison here in the next week or so and I will report back with some pictures too.

The hardest part will be waiting all winter as it sits in storage. But come summer I can start the fun modifications like upgrades to suspension, engine and in the mean time I will be looking through these boards for possible forced induction options.

Thanks for everything.

Pics man pics. There is nothing we like more pics of front engine porsches. Its even better when they are not fixed up, you can just feel all these wild ideas well up inside you about how to make the car perfect. So do everybody a favor and post some photos of your pride and joy.
