I was just wondering where you guys get all of your replacement parts...I am trying to get a hold of a gasket for the thermostat housing on my 924, and apparently, the gasket is made of unobtanium... The dealer wants $20 for it, and it will take two weeks to be shipped on the slow boat from Germany...Pelican Parts is telling me the same thing...is there anywhere I can get these parts in the US, and not have to wait weeks and weeks for delivery??

So I was just wondering where you guys get your replacement parts, gaskets etc...

+1 for Ozzie. You should be able to get a sheet of gasket material at any good parts house or speed shop for less than $20 and make several.

With the 82 now 25 years old, it is amazing any parts are available. patience is the key here. The $20 for the gasket is the difference between driving your car and looking at it in the driveway. Focus on the outcome, not the cost of an easily duplicated part. BTW, get a gasket punch at the hardware store to cut the bolt holes cleanly. Fresh razor blade and you're there. I spray the part it has to match up to with black paint or get it oily and set it on the paper to leave an impression to cut it out from. Works like a charm, even a piece off a 6-pack carrier in a pinch with permatex. That one has been on my bulldozer for a few years now.

I get parts where ever I find them, before I need them. So, I haunt auto parts swapmeets like the Pomona, CA, Porsche/Corvette Swapmeet, because watercooled Porsche parts are not in heavy demand, and can be purchased inexpensively (seems like when you don't need them).

One time, I turned down a whole grocery bag of new (15-20) 931 updated turbo breather hoses for $50. After the swapmeet I checked and found out that the things were worth over $200 each.

I have turned down a whole crate of brand new Genuine Porsche windshields for $20.

One time I bought (36) sets of new OEM front and rear brake pads for $5 a set.

And another time I got new Genuine Porsche 944/924S clutch pressure plates, and clutch discs for $20 each.

I surf the clearance sections of Internet Parts Sellers for watercooled parts, and the closeout lists from Porsche Dealers. I usually end up buying the more common expendable parts from Online Sellers (only when I am familar with the parts manufacturer, and can identify the manufacturer before ordering). I always check the prices at the local and Internet Selling authorized Porsche Dealers before buying (unless at a swapmeet).

And I never throw away extra parts when I am working on my cars. Sometimes you end up with duplicate parts (gaskets and seals) when you are doing a service (like servicing the cylinder head), and you may need that part down the road (I suspect that I have the gasket that you need in my spare 924 gasket bag/box).

Well, I get all of my parts from Automotion (or Performance Products, same place). I have never had a problem with them. They carry the thermostat housing gasket you're looking for because I've bought it recently. It is only $2.95. Below is a link to their website with the gasket.

http://www.automotion.com/productpage.aspx?pid=106185&name=Thermostat+Housing+Gasket

Their main page is automotion.com.

Just my 2 cents.

Rasta,

I do sell some of my parts Genuine Porsche Parts occasionally. I don't give them away, because it cost me money to find them, buy them, and hold them. I don't offer parts to everyone who asks for parts.

The people who have gotten parts from me all got great deals. STILL, but I don't sell parts for less than is cost me, or if there is a chance that I might need the part in the future, or to (Jackasses), you guys know who you are.

If someone says they are going to send money for a part, and they never do (DeadBeats), or they send me a bad check (Scammers), then they never get a chance to buy new parts from my stash again (you guys know who you are).

Incase nobody figured it out, Rasta, you are one of those guys who is never going to have access to my new parts collection.

Dear lord, are you ever a butt head. What makes a fella as smart as you so bitter and pissed off, anyway?

Rasta,

Whose the butthead?

Should I publish the private messages you sent to me asking me to drive 150 miles to Palm Springs, inspect the car you ended up buying, negotiate the price down for you, tow it to my house, use my tools and time to disassemble it and ship the parts for you to the people you collect money from?

But Wait, we already did this before in public, OR DON'T YOU REMEMBER?
