I love old Porsches!
I just took the Redster in for emissions testing, and got this:
83 PPM HC (220 allowed)
.04% CO (1% allowed)
Nice! Can you imagine this with a 20 year old American car with over 100k miles??

Looks good - with the 83 HC reading I'd be willing to guess it doesn't have much if any of an oil burning problem.
What'd it get for NOx?
How do they test in Oregon? Just at idle, or idle and driving (on dyno-type rollers)? _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Unless NOx is another word for "Dilution %" it wasn't tested.
I think the testing might be different for different year vehicles. For my 90 Cherokee, you have to idle, then free-rev at 3000 RPM, then idle again. For Shaggy, after the idle test, the tech said "it's so low you don't even have to do the second part." Same with Red.
I think I have seen rollers at the testing facility, but never with a car on them. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Well that test sounds pretty fun 'n easy compared to what they do to you in NJ. Ours was "upgraded" to a California style test some years ago by the then governor Christie Whitman. They have you step out of the car at the entrance to the facility and you go sit in a booth at the other end - a good time for reflection and prayer that they don't f your car up. CO, HC, and NOx are tested both at idle and on the rollers going about 30mph. -So I have to have it just right, to get through - too rich and it fails for CO, too lean and it fails for NOx, but when it's set correctly to get through the test, the warm-up and idle are crappei, so it has to be re-set back afterward. If they only tested HC and CO, it'd be a breeze. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

In SE Wisconsin, for older cars, they put them on the dyno and drive them at speeds up to 55 for about 5 minutes. The tech watches a TV which tells him what speed to go and when to shift and downshift gears. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
