So, if you free-rev Red, the revs fall back toward idle as you would expect, but when it gets close to 1000 RPM, it blips up just a hair (to 1200 or so) before settling to an idle around 950.

Malfunctioning air flow sensor?

This link is not working at the moment but I remember that there was something there about retracking air flow meters.

http://frwilk.com/944dme/afm.htm

I retracked one 944 AFM a while ago and it helped the general behaviour of that car.

I do not know the right words in english but inside 944/924S AFM there is this wiper thing that moves on top of film looking surface.

When it moves back and forth for 20 years, then the film surface will wear out or even disintegrate under the wiper.

You can move the wiper so that it will move on fresh surface again.

If all this makes no sense to you, just gently pry of that black cover on top of the AFM. It is somehow glued there. Be careful not to brake it.

EDIT: I found it! Read this:

This procedure is on Clark's Garage as well, and I was considering taking a look at the inside of the unit.

Thanks for the reply.

OK, the P.R.O.G.R.A.M. was exposed yet again. I thought it was idling a little high at times, so I jumper the IAC and turned the idle screw down. . .and down. . .and down. . .and down, somewhere between 5 and 10 turns. Idles correctly, weird blip is gone.
