Does anyone know where I can buy new rear stub axles?

Mine have worn and I still had play even with new bearings. Thinking I hadn't torqued it up properly I kept tightening, and I've now stretched the threads too so need replacements but can't find them at any of the usual parts places.

Any suggestions?

The rear stub axles are fairly easly to find used, here in the U.S., but where you are, it would probably be more difficult. The going rate here is around $20 each, and sometimes even the Porsche specific the salvage yards have them on sale at $10 each. The problem would be shipping in your case.

Be careful that get the right replacement parts. The stub axles from a car with alloy trailing arms will not fit on a 924 with steel rear trailing arms, as they will be too long.

I know that when I have purchased used rear trailing arms, the stub axles were included. I may even have one or two sitting around here.

When you replaced the bearings, did you replace all of the spacers? If the spacers are worn or damaged, the play will never go away. At any rate, from what I have seen, there will always be at least a small amount of side play due to manufacturing tolerances.

If you want brand new parts, the only place to go will be a Porsche Dealer, or maybe a patient VW Dealer (should be the same as a Type 181), or one of the few Aftermarket Suppliers who has a contract to buy directly from the Porsche Warehouse. Expect to pay $200-$300 each for new ones. The stub axles were revised over the years, and the later ones look heavier (reinforced/better) to me.

Thanks, I'll have a look for some good used ones here. If I can't get any locally I'll get some from someone on the board.

I hadn't replaced the spacers, so that could be a big part of the problem!

The base casting is different for the 944 stub axle, but the part number should be the same. And it will fit and function exactly the same way.

I think I have one or two used stub axles myself in the garage in the spares box, if you want used ones.

The only problem would be the cost of shipping. Let me know if you want me to check and see how many I have. Send your complete address if you want me to check the cost of shipping.

Thanks Gohim and dgz924s, they could both end up being good options.

Has any one ever delt with these guys?

I think I bought something from those guys a long time ago (15 years?). And, I think the transaction went okay.

You do realize that those are used parts, and they are $120 each, don't you?

That is 6X times what many other people sell used ones for.

Holey smokes!

Looking at other parts from that catalogue, $8.00 for upper front strut mounts. They're around $30.00 everywhere else.

They say parts are new unless otherwise indicated. What I was looking at everything looked new.

They also indicate they have stock in some parts that everyone else says are no longer available.

Thanks for spotting that.

There is someone by the name screen name of plyhammer who is advertising 944 parts in the For Sale section.

Why not contact him, and ask what his price would be?

I have not done business with him before myself, so I cannot say anything about his reliability.

I was really hoping to go new, but since I can't find a new pair anywhere I'll try the local Porsche wreckers as it'll probably be cheaper without the freight costs.

The next problem then is finding the new bearing spacers. Most places I've tried say no longer available. Anyone know where I can get a set please?
