I have recently found out that I have a ring and pinion problem. I thought it was the transmission but it's not. I have been looking into the whole gear ratio thing. The 924S has a gear ratio of 9:37 = 0.243. This is a fairly tall gear ratio. Correct me if I am wrong! I think in a transaxle you can change the ring and pinion to get a different ratio. Again PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG! I have been looking around at these and have found one that will lower the ratio to 4:11 = 0.364. Is there going to be any problems to change to this if I already have to replace it? (Other than gas mileage, Lol) I have found one through PowerHaus at Lightgearsahead.com Has anyone used this company?

Close ratio 1-4, high 5th for highway cruising (a la early 944 NA).

yea...what you want is an early 944 NA gearbox. its a short gearbox(for a decently powered engine). its crazy...0-200 Kmph is incredibly fast....0-160 seem just an eye blink

924 NA Audi-type 5spd is even shorter gear ratio than 944 NA and it has proven itself handling more power and more reliable. Strange but true.

very true...the 924 NA gearbox is even shorter...but unfortunately it does not go with any other TT/engine than the 924NA.

The NA gearbox that i have shifts way faster than any 944 gearbox that i have seen....i'd love a coupler that can mate the 944 TT to the 924 gearbox.

Well, FWIW I just put fresh gear oil in Red (our S), and it is now shifting better than any car I have ever driven. It's a great tranny.

There are many guys who have welded a coupler to use 924 transmission on 944.

I think the trans is fine so I hate to do anything like change it. So what should I do about the ring and pinion?
