Anyone ever replace their turbo AND EM without removing the cylinder head? Can it be done? _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

Impressive, that's gotta be some sort of record. Or is it that much easier on a 932? Still, that's quick. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

been there done that, couple of times.. it can definitely be done, though i think its probably easier to pull the whole engine. might not be faster, but with it out, you can get to all the bolts much easier, and do a better job of getting more accurate torque values and such when putting it back together. its also a good option if you want to give the whole thing a once over, and replace the drain lines and other stuff thats hard to get from the top or the bottom.. _________________ Eric

Yeah, I hear ya and I'd really like to do it. No doubt that is the best way. Unfortunately garage space is at a premium right now. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

It is a frustrating experience. The first time I struggled bigtime - broke fingernails, plenty of skin off the back of my hands etc. The next time was a bit easier and by the fourth time I had a strategy for every nut.
A few of them required two universal joints and extensions on the ratchet. I'm sure torque values go out the window with so many transmission pieces in the way so I just do everything up "tight". _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

| When I bought this car, the turbo had been removed. I ended up putting another turbo back on w/o removing the head. It can be done. THe hardest part is getting the oil line to stop leaking at the top. |
