Well after about two months of working here and there on my '78, its on the road. I did the basics, oil, plugs, wires, etc. after I drove it home from the preveous owners storage unit. I aslo replaced the right front fender, lower grill, headlight bucket, front seats. I bought a later model upper valence but may not do the exchange, seems to be a pain to cut off the original. The original was hammered down to allow access to the hood release. Anyway I have been driving it in the morning before work. It is fuuuuuun to drive. It does surge a little, and low on power on take off, but in fourth gear it goes good. I havent done a highway run yet but soon. The car sat for about a year and a half, so I think it just needs to be driven. This car will never be a beauty queen, body damage, welded door hinges?, but it was free to me and most of the paint can be buffed out. Growing up I wasnt much into the 924s, but now after driving it, I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT!!! I'm actually looking at one in town thats much nicer, but I dont really need another 924 when I just got this one, and I just finished a long term project just before gettig the 924, 1973 Super Beetle Carrera. Enough for now, keep you posted on the rest of the 924 with photos later.

Glad to hear you like it, they are a really fun car to drive!
Take it for a blast on the highway or preferably on some twisting roads if there are any near you.
Not bagging your super beetle but IMHO there is no comparison really.
ENJOY,

Roger,
My super beetle is pretty wicked. It is basicly a 914 in a bugs clothing with 150+ hp 914 motor and 914 disc brakes and steering rack and a bunch of suspension stuff. Not your everyday bug. Not to disagree at all with you, the bug is a blast, but the 924 is and is going to a fun car. My five year old daughter cant wait till she can go for a ride. _________________ EVERY ROAD IS MY RACETRACK!

Better shove her in the back seats while she can still fit! Just kidding. That Beetle sounds pretty funky, why not post some pics? The 924 is not really very much like a rear-wheel engine vehicle, as you've no doubt discovered. It's much better. As a restorer of derelict German machinery you're more than qualified to fix it tho.
About the surging, can't say I've ever had that problem but there was a kind of similar issue at one time that turned out to be the 2 wires at the distributor. It would cut out ever so inconveniently at speed. I soldered the wires in the distributor and fixed "poke-ok" connections at the wire end. You might check it out, but could be something else. _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild
