Well i climbed under my car yesterday, and i think i figured out what is wrong with the shift linkage. There is a piece that has sheared in half leaving the linkage completely detached form the transmission. I couldn't locate the piece in the PET for the car, but i found a picture that looks to be the same part.
the piece in question is the one that has been welded back together in this picture.
My question, can i buy this somewhere, can it be fixed, and how do i get the 2 broken halves off. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)

Whups!!! I've not seen those broken off before, but I guess it happens!
I'd recommend getting one used through these or the rennlist forums.
Removal - I believe it should be pretty straightforward once you get under there, with nuts/bolts holding them on. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Throw it away and replace it with a short shift one. It was the best mod I made to my 924S! _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

WoW! What a bargain! Those things go for neary £200 (US$300) on E-bay over here. Boy, do we get ripped off! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

The short shift kit is a great idea, but won't replace that broken component. _________________ Vaughan Scott

What am I missing? The short shift kit replaces exactly the part shown in the first post of this thread. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

that does look like a great deal. The part that is broken is at the back, part is connected to a rod coming out of the top of the transmission (i think. i couldn't get the best view.) and the other parts is attached to all the shift linkage stuff. If the short throw kit will cover that i'm all for it and will probably get it. I just haven't done any research on the short throw kits, so i don't know what it includes.
Also, i found that picture online, i'm not sure it is exactly the same piece, but it looks really close. as i said the piece in question is on the drivers side of the transmission, seems to attach to a rod coming out of the transmission, and then points up to connect to all the linkage. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)

one other question, the listing says it is for a 944 turbo. i'm assuming since you (paul) have made the swap it is compatible with the 924S? I'm still figuring out what parts work with each of the models. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)

It includes everything needed to replace the shifter linkage shown in your picture. If something else is broken, then it will not help.

ok, thanks. for some reason when i looked at it the first time i was thinking it went somewhere near the actual shift lever, not at the back. Guess i was thinking wrong. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)
