Got the head off my engine today. Here's some pictures, what do you guys think about the condition of everything. Nothing looks horribly wrong to me, but this is my first time doing this so what do i know.

the rest of the pictures are here

and i know all about this being an interference motor, i'm keeping that in mind and being careful to not damage anything.

Would be interested in seeing the water jackets and block side surface of the head gasket. Also, the cylinder walls look good from this angle. Have you checked them all for scratches?

Looks like valves hit pistons there. I'm assuming that happened in another life though, on another set of valves, so you should be ok..

Since all 4 pistons have those marks, they are the stock valve relief recesses, too bad they did not make them deep enough to avoid interference all together!

Well thems some funky little valve recesses. -All the better then if they're not signs of past damage. Maybe the car was taken good care of.

On the pic of the cam lobe through the tappet bore- is that a reflection or something more?

If you can catch your fingernail on it you have a problem.

Hope not!

I'm glad i'm not hearing anything bad so far.

RC, the cam lobes look really good. All of then have the same marks on then but they are exactly the same for each and apear to be there on purpose so that they clear part of the houseing as they spin. The finish on them is still perfect, infact i had to take a lot of shots because they kept reflecting the flash back and blinding the shot. Even the caps that sit ontop of the valves had no marks from the cam lobes. I wonder if someone has rebuilt it before or if it was just really well taken care of. The car is claimed to have 167,000 miles on it, however since the odometer doesn't have 6 numbers i guess its possible that its only 67,000. Or 267,000, but lets hope its not the later.

dpw928, i'll take some more pictures on saturday when i'm home again. I'm back at school now so my working time has been greatly reduced.
