I was wondering how do all the climate controls work, and my 81 has a little switch with a picture of the side view mirrors. I am guessing this is a power mirror selector switch but where the hell is the controller?

There were 2 styles of controls - the earlier one had 3 rows of full width sliders with the fan speed controlled by one of them. The later style has a rotary switch at left for fan speed and 2 rows of sliders with 2 short sliders on the top row and 1 full width slider below. The later style wasn't used until late '82, so obviously you should have the earlier style. I wound up with the later style, so all I know about the earlier, I found it here.
You'd have 3 long sliders - I don't know what order they're in, but one opens/closes the large outer flap that's visible from the engine compartment - the same lever controls fan speed. Another slider would be to control a flap at the bottom to direct airflow between the footwell and defrost. The last lever controls the heater valve, regulating coolant flow through the heater core. Front of dash vents on this setup don't get heat, only "fresh" air from outside - you'd have to close those vents if you ever need to heat the interior.

Right, that switch selects between mirrors. The actual adjustment switch is on the drivers' door, toward the front, under that section that sticks out.

As Smoothie said, and I copied this from a previous post.

Take it you have the controls with the 3 sliders. Top one opens external air vent and turns on fan at right position, first slow through integral resistor then full on.

Middle lever opens coolant (hot water) valve, so standard is on at RIGHT.

Bottom lever opens/closes bottom flap so again to deflect air up move RIGHT.

Little levers on middle vent open/close internal flaps. Up pozzy closes vents and is supposed to deflect air through demist vents.
