when I get up to speed on the highway, the steering wheel will vibrate and rattle quite a bit. It doesn't do it all the time, kinda comes and goes. It doesn't really happen until about over 55 mph. Any thoughts? I'm thinking maybe struts, I know they probably need replaced. Thanks for the help.

Here're some recent thoughts on that -

Check your tie rod ends, tire balancing, wheel bearings, or maybe steering ujoints.

It only really happens at above 50 mph speeds. When I am going slower and I hit a bump it sounds like the whole front end rattles and I'm gonna lose something. When I push down on the front end, it bounces right back up.

My dad (former owner) told me that the struts would be needing replaced in the near future, didn't think it'd be 6 months after getting it back on the road (sat for 10+). Struts aren't too much of pita are they? I did em on an old Mazda years ago but don't remember everything. Looks like I won't be dying my carpet this weekend, front end sounds more fun.

Don't forget to replace the strut mounts while you're at it.

Anything else in particular to look at while I'm at it? Easy tricks to make it go faster and not kill a 12 pack of Labatts?

Getting at least the front alignment done while you're at it is very nice, as is also having new stock rubber a-arm bushings pressed in - it'll drive much better - I mean, like new!

Depending on how you do it, you'll either be done before opening one beer, or you may finish almost the whole 12 pack. Here's an aptly named topic on it - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=4091

(findable by oneself with a search for all terms on spring compressor careful)

well, I just took the 924 in and had them balance the wheels. I guess I must have thrown a weight because I just had it up to around 105 and I didn't have any vibrations at any speeds. So that problem is done. I am still looking into getting new struts though. Now that it runs smoothly on the highway, I can better feel where the looseness is coming from around the front end. What kind of struts do you guys recommend? Right now I'm running with 15" 944 spoke/mag wheels, and plan on getting new wheels (maybe 17") next year so I kinda need to keep that in mind. I don't want the stock struts back in, just something that will be fun to drive with...
