auto cross prep
I will be doing my first Auto cross in a few weeks (stock class).
any body know of any good articles/links for prepping a 924 S.
eventually I want to lighten the car and run it in a prepared street legal class so articles on that would be
good too. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

That may be the best advice I've ever heard. It's true. I've done it, and I've seen about a hundred other people do it. |

I added these mods to my car to address the lack of hand/leg room that plagues drivers (especially those with longer legs) while autocrossing (see URL below for pics):
1) Extended Hub steering wheel: This was an option for 924S and 944. It moves the wheel 1" closer to the driver which makes it almost impossible to accidentally hit the wiper arm as well as adding significant room for your legs to operate the pedals. I also swapped the 3-spoke (380mm) wheel for the 4-spoke sport wheel (363mm) which provided slightly more leg room.
2) Heel-Toe block: I heel-toe using the left side of my foot on Brake and right side of foot on Gas. A wooden block attached to the Gas makes this very easy (unless you have EEE width feet).
3) Middle Tach placement: This is great since you can actually see the tach while driving. This is not an easy project so don't start this unless you absolutely "gotta have it" - you've been warned!
P.S. I also added 1/4" spacers to all four wheel hubs to increase Track. SCCA Solo II and most clubs (e.g. PCA) allow this. I did not have to change wheel studs to use these spacers.

I found this in PET:
944 347 084 03 - Sport Steering Wheel with Elevated Hub
There doesn't seem to be a part number for the spacer itself. Are you aware of one, or of an aftermarket source? _________________ Toofah King Bad

So where is that wiper fuse?
That hub extension is great to know about. I too have long legs. It took me a while to find a comfortable
way too heel toe. I use my toe on the brake and heel on the gas for down shifting. I kind of have to throw
both legs to the left under the steering column to pull it of. It took some getting use to but I got it down fairly well.
In the day of $200-$300 racing pedals I like the block of wood. not much of a looker but I can see it gets
the job done.
I like the tachometer in the center but I am guessing it would take less work or at least as much work to
installing a second tachometer in a more visible place.
I just put the car in the shop to get aliment and front tires balanced. I’m having them clean, re-pack and
swap the CV joints too. So the car should handle like a charm. Just one week away to show time. I got
the boot kit from EBS Racing. What a great deal everthing: boot greese bults for like $10/boot. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit

Matt - The fuses are located beneath the dash on the drivers side. You'll see a row of 15 fuses. They are numbered from left (outboard) to right (inboard). According to the owners manual fuse #11 (8 amps) is for the Windshield wipers, washer pump and heated washer jets. _________________ Ron

Had alot of fun. Never had any problems with hitting the wipers. Placed 5th out of 6 or seven over all from the two day event. My driving partner placed one spot above me even with spinng out a couple times. We had alot of room to play on the air strip. One of the largest cources around from what I am told. One of my freinds had his 924S up to 50 at one point.
I plan to upgrade my sway bar with a thicker one from a 944 turbo as had been done by the 1st place winner. I also plan to ditch the crapy unmatching steel rims that came with the car and go with with the orginal phone dials or somthing off a 944.
finaly I will put a D production body kit on and maby a smaller stearing wheel. _________________ Red 1987 924S with plans for D Productions Kit
