Hi Everyone,

I am completely rewiring my track car and am not sure how to acheive the impedence needed in two of the wires as described in the Haynes. The first wire is from terminal 15 on the starter solenoid-to-terminal 15 on the coil, and another wire from terminal 15 on the coil-to- pin 15 on the ignition controller. It is a '79 N/A with a factory ignition configuration.

Now, should I just find some ballast resistors (0.4 and 0.6 Ohm) to put in-line like the older cars with points, or can I fabricate "resistor wires" to get the 1.0 and 1.5 Ohm (respectively) impedence required?

Resistors or resistance wire whichever you can get easily. All it does is current limit. My personal preference is for resisters which I can mount some where easily accessible and for good cooling.

In the interest of simplicity (fewer things to go wrong) you can also skip the wire from the auxiliary terminal of the starter solenoid to the coil terminal 15. This is simply to provide additional current to the coil primary for a hotter spark during cranking. None of mine has needed it to 'get going'.

Assuming you still have the original coil you only need a resistor in the switched 12V line to limit current. As John Brown said, one is not necessary on the starter circuit. Check on the bottom of your coil, it may say use with resistor or not. These days most standard type coils dont use a resistor and both types will be available at your FLAPS, (as well as many with varying primary impedance to suit OEM HEI systems) Resistors around 1 ohm are also available at FLAPS for around $10. Its not rocket science and the values are not overly critical.

Picked up resistor at my local parts shop and installed into the switched 12V side. Started right up!! Now I can complete my wiring schematic as well.

Race car finally running!
