I'm trying to replace the shifter cable on my 82 non-turbo and I'm running into lots of problems. The muffler pipe cracked and sent hot gas to the cable and it no longer shifts. I've followed the manual and tried to remove everything in the way but the muffler has bolts around the catalytic converter I just can't seem to get to. Has anyone changed one of these out? Any help would be appreciated. It's stuck in drive and won't move. Thanks. I didn't know if this thread needs to be moved to "how to" or not because it's a how do I do it rather that this is how I did it. lol

Dropping the entire exhaust system from the header pipe back might be the easiest.
