I changed the oil a couple of days ago. I have noticed at idle, the pressure is at about 2 bars, then driving at highway speeds with higher RPMs, like 4-5k, the pressure is up to about 7-9 bars. Is this normal? The haynes says at 2k RPMs, pressure should be 3-5 (from memory as I don't have it right here). _________________ Rob

Don't know off the top o' my head what the upper limit should be, but roughly 2 bar per 1k rpm is about right from my own past experience. It's normal and good for the pressure to rise with engine speed.
Tech Specs says approx. 7 bar at 5000 rpm and oil temp 80-100C. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Yes, though usually (with miles as well as temp) once warm the high pressure will fall to around 5-6bar or so... might want to clean out your oil pressure relief valve just to be sure... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Is that easy to do (also, is it in haynes)? Will oil leak everywhere (I will be in my driveway, not garage)? _________________ Rob

Yes, it's pretty easy, and no, it won't cause the loss of a lot of oil... unless you do it with the engine running! _________________ Vaughan Scott

The oil pressure relief valve is the "housing relief valve" PET part 046115419? It is just below the bottom of the timing belt? Just loosen the bolt and pull it out? _________________ Rob

I cleaned it, but didn't let any balls bounce. Seemed fine. I guess Smoothie's 2bar/1k RPM is about what the car does. _________________ Rob
