|

I've noticed lately, that my Porsche has a ton of body roll when cornering, and the driver's wheel even scrapes the wheel well on hard turns...I was wondering what I can do to fix this?
The car has all stock suspension, and was sitting for almost 10 years in a garage, unused...I'm assuming this could have made my springs go saggy? _________________ -1977 924, 4-Spd...Gone

Just with the body weight on the springs would compress them less than driving it. Check the condition of your rubber suspension bushes and shock absorbers.
Generally one of the first things to replace (with polyurethane) for a suspension upgrade. Then get new shocks all round, stock or sports. Get a good 4 wheel alignment and camber adjustment.

The suspension feels very tight, but I know that my upper strut mounts need to be replaced, as the rubber has basically collapsed completely...and the front shocks are rubbish. I just replaced the rear shocks, but sadly, I didn't notice much of an improvement at all... _________________ -1977 924, 4-Spd...Gone

Oh yea, the upper strut mounts are a common problem on these cars. With a 77 you have the early (crappy) type. Best to replace both sides with the later (and 944) type, that has the one piece rubber with an integral bearing and use the spacer. Its been discussed many times before so do a search.

replace front struts and strut bearing.. they will come out in multiple pieces, they went in as one piece... the improvement will be vast... _________________ Eric

Im doing my front suspension as well right now. I was wondering if there is a source of affordable rubber bushings and whatnot. Also, which ones should I replaces? links would be helpful.
Thanks,

Yes, same part, same price.
That diagram shows the later (79) one piece type that carried on with the 944. An original 77 will have a slightly different setup with an individual bearing and rubber pieces (probably NLA) whereas those later type are 1 part. That is all you have to replace. Dont know where you got $400 from unless you are looking at aftermarket ones with a solid centre or adjustable camber plates.

Ok, I think I've got it...the mount you posted is the later style one-piece mount? What about the rubber ring that sits on top? Is that part of the one-piece...or do I have to buy new ones? _________________ -1977 924, 4-Spd...Gone

If you going through all that trouble why not change out the A arm bushings. Bug Pack makes good replacements. Cheap too remember they are VW parts. Poly bushings for faster crisp turns. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
