Guys
Here's the equipment I have....and I was thinking about the potential install.
Is this a good setup configuration?
The head unit is a new 4x45w per channel thing.
Here's a diagram of what I am thinking (but Im no expert!) = ]
Not convinced it's the best way of setting up though, what do you think?
thanks

In a car this size, I personally think the two sets of rear speakers are overkill. With the correct 4 channel amp in the back, you could setup the two 6x9 speakers on two channels stereo, and then run the other two channels in bridged mono mode to drive the sub. Or better yet, drive the tweeters, front door speakers and rear 6x9s off of the four channel amp, and then have a dedicated mono amp for the subs (i.e. don't use the built in amp in the head unless you have to).
For the fronts, I think it would be technically preferable to have a cross over setup that both sets of speakers would connect to. What you have depicted would be more of a high-pass filter for the tweeters, which is not the same thing as a cross over. The cross over will send the correct frequencies to the correct speakers, thereby making most efficient use of the available power from the amp, and also creating a more discreet sound...you don't want your front speakers reproducing the same thing as the tweeters because you could end up with phase issues, or with too much high end. Ideally, you would also want a sweepable low pass filter for the rear 6x9's that would eliminate any high end from going to the back. I'm sure someone somewhere makes a true 3-way cross over for car audio that would achieve what I've suggested, but I'm not up on all the makes and models these days. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Dan right.....
As it stands i wouldnt run the front of the head and the rears off the amp.
That RCA which joins the headunit to the ampis that a digital audio signal?...if not youde want to run 4 outputs from headunit to amp then four outputs from amp to speakers. This way you ensure that you get even gain between front splits and rear 6x9 ....otherwise youll have to tune rears to match fronts which is a pain in the arse.(alot of the time youll have to do it anyway)
The rockford monoblocks are apparently very good...but for simplicity ide look at a head unit with a dedicated sub preamp out to go straight to the monoblocks amp then off to the speakers
WORD OF WARNING--- The best most expensive speakers/amps etc are not always the best solution for your application...
If you enjoy listening to music atdecent levels(80% of the population) then forget your amps keep things simple and run straight off the headunit.... But if you like mindblowing base and high volume levels definately an amp
Personally im adding 4 mini switches so that all4 speakers can be powered by either just the headunit (when i remove amp for spirited driving---weigt loss) OR through the amp for times when im just cruising along _________________ 1979 NA

For a proper sound stage, you only need a set of speakers at the front. Rear speakers are there only for rear passengers.
Speaker wise, best setup would be a set of Component Speakers up front, powered by an Amplifier if you like your music loud. Only problem with our cars is, its quite difficult to fit large speakers in our doors. So you might need to get creative.
Dont get the Pyle subwoofer, they are POS. You can get a nice Alpine type R 12" sub for around $100 or so. With the proper amplifier they provide the best bang for the buck in terms of loudness.
You might want to consider upgrading your alternator if your planning on running anything over 1000W RMS. Our alternators are 70amps... and 30yrs have taken a toll on them.
What brand of headunit is it by the way? _________________ 1977 Porsche 924

I sort of like a mix of what scopio and ideola say. I would run both the front door and the tweeters through the cross over via the head unit in a bridged config (slight pain in the ass for adjusting fade, ballance, and stuff off the head unit but should be capable enough). then use one 4ch amp to run two rears and then a sub off a bridged amp channel also. should be way loud enough in our cars and if you get the right gear should sound good too. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

LOL, thats pretty much my setup in my daily driver!!!
I have audiobahn tweeters with HPF's, 6'' 2 way speakers in the front doors and in the back, 6x9's in boxes with extra wiring so I can pull them out and put on the roof for when i go camping or playing beach volleyball, 2 kicker comp V12'', a 4 channel amp puching the 8 speakers and a mono amp pushing the subs.
+1 to what ideola said. This is in a '03 Taurus which is very large in the inside compared to a 924. I would never run all this in my 924 because of weight and the power draw on the battery/charging system. Even in my '03 with a much newer charging system than a 924 and a 1 farad cap to help a little my headlights dim. i couldnt imagine what would happen in a 924.
It would probably be a waste of money in a 924 becasue the power required to use everything wouldnt be available. So you would be under powering everything. If you are a car audio nut and you want to upgarde your alternator, battery, wiring, etc. then it would have enough power for that stereo.
However, would it sound good? Dont buy seperate tweeters. Like someone said already buy the component speakers for the front. With my stereo I have too much highs, because I have 4 tweeters in the front and 4 in the back. You need a lot of highs and mids to match the bass of 2 12'' subs that can hammer, but realistically this is overkill. The component speakers will be much better for balanced mids and highs.
I really like 6x9's. Some people dont. I think they put out a lot of sound for the price. I found that they really fill in the mid to low frequencies nicely. They hit the higher freq. bass and make for a well balanced sound system. 2 6x9's in the back of a 924 is lots. And i like my music loud.
+1 on not buying the pyle sub. Alpine is pretty good and you can get them online for pretty cheap, watch out for shipping though. _________________ '80 924 M471,Wideband O2, Full coilover susp,23/19 sways,Bilstiens,KLA Strut Brace,Roll Bar,Test Pipe,BBS RS, Willwood BBK
