|
|
i picked up a 951/968 radiator , very nice unit and got it pretty cheap. plenty of details on the 924-944 swap in other threads.. the problem im having is with the fans and shroud re the 951/968 unit.
the p/n 's for the 944 and 951 / 968 fan shroud is different, last two digits for the 944 is 02(944-106-143-02), and the 951/968 unit is a "00" (951-106-143-00) .
cant find any specs on what the differences between the 951/968 unit are vs the 944 units, either shroud or rad.
Id like to go with the 968/951 shroud, but the 944 normal units are much cheaper and easier to come by, but i can't figure out if they will bolt up to the 951 /968 radiator directly. Or if there any advantage to the 951 shroud over the standard 944 one in weight or efficiency. im trying to avoid making brackets as much as possible, i want a clean, factory looking install, and ill have to make a few brackets already just to fit the radiator in my 82-931.
anyone have any details or info here? _________________ Eric

Hey Eric,
I know that some 944's use a single-fan instead of the dual. That would be at least one of the part number differences... Honestly, I'd just drop a note on rennlist or pelicanparts boards. I'm sure someone will know what the difference is between the 951/968 fans and regular 944. Rennlist was particular helpful with a pic request from me. I'm thinking of cutting out the complete 951 radiator mounting and using all factory bits to swap in a 951 rad&fans. Good luck! _________________ 1980 931S

the rennlist post occurred to me after i posted here, great minds think alike
there a couple inches of room to play with on the upper end, so my thinking is that if i remount my a/c condenser (im keeping the a/c) and rework the mounts a little, it shouldnt be to difficult to do (famous last words..), then run a channel across the bottom to snug everything up, and angle the bottom forward a bit to keep the air flowing across the entire surface , it should be fine and look factory..
well see what our rennlist brethren know about the shrouds though, thats my missing link right now. _________________ Eric

Crap, I forgot that the AC condenser shares the same mounting as the radiator. Looks like I need to research a little more into making this a factory-like swap. I wonder how the 951 condenser mounts? And if it can be swapped out too. Slippery slope... _________________ 1980 931S
