Hey all, i've been lurking for some time waiting for delivery on my 1980 931 project.
We it finally arrived... The good news is that it starts and runs pretty well...
The bad news is a laundry list...
The whole thing need an overhaul, new seals all around, the exterior needs some work, the interior is terrible...
I already have most of the parts for my efi conversion... I like the idea of MFI, but honestly, i'm a computer programmer, that would be like using punchcards to program rather than a developed language.
The turbo is shot, the exhaust manifold leaks exhaust, I'm almost positive there are vacuum leaks... It looks like everything in the car is original to the car, including belts and hoses. Shifter is sloppy, clutch pedal has almost no travel....
Ahhh, good fun.

The motor is an interference design, the timing belt is less than $15, check it!!! _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Welcome to the board. Post some pics when you get them. What color is the car? Don't forget that alot (most) of 944 parts will fit right into your interior so you have plenty of resources for parts.
Good luck! Let the suffering begin! _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

No worries mate, i'm tearing the whole block down, stripping the engine bay, cleaning it up, spraying the bay, then i'll work on the other things... |

Awesome tip man, i'll make sure to look into that stuff when i'm ready for the interior... i'll be happy sitting on a crate if I can get the engine sorted out...
Today I wanted to drain the gas tank because it is leaking a bit, so it occured to me, why not jumper the fuel pump relay, and cut the lines at the fuel dizzy. I hooked up a hose to the feed line and just let the pump fill my GTO's tank... now there is a 40 dollar savings
Not too worried about the pump, it will probably be replaced as well... I'll probably ditch the fuel relay in the cabin and use the one on the Megasquirt relay board... I might actually rewire the whole car, but we'll see... depends on ambition, of course, if i'm going to tear it down, I might at well do it right. |

Outside of Pocono Raceway there is a turbo that has been sitting there for years. I have been watching it and stopping every other time to look at it.
The jerk let it rot. It was nice at first. Now the junk yard has a sign on it best offer. Anyone interested it is in the junk yard just before you get to the track.

Ok, here are some pictures I snapped of the car before I started disassembling it.
And last, my completed Megasquirt just waiting to be installed.

Welcome to the 931 MegaSquirt Club! I think you make member #2
Have any fun plans? Or just ditching the CIS for the obvious reasons?
Aside from the bad re-paint, it looks pretty solid. Even with 7? 8? inch rear wheels? It looks like the distributor is clocked in the wrong mounting holes (the other set of holes rotates it down and away from the hood). Not that it matters as I imagine you'll run a dizzy-less ignition?
Cheers!

Well,
I'm going to start with pulling the motor and freshening it up a bit... Complete EFI conversion w/ Ford EDIS ignition... I have aquired all of the parts already for the conversion, except for the TPS... i'm not sure if i'm going to run w/ a stock tb or not...
I also haven't decided if i'm going to keep the factory turbo or build a new manifold and run a different one...
I have some green tops that I plan on running to make sure that everything is working ok until I figure out what exactly i'm going to do about boost, turbo, ect.
Since the interior is so messed, i'm not sure what i'm going to do go w/ a factory install again or perhaps some nice recaro seats...
Big plans, lot too do... I'm thinking a good 12 - 18lbs of boost.
I have already hooked the megasquirt up to my laptop w/ the stimulator... pretty cool stuff...
How long did it take you to tune it? |

I look forward to joining this party with my '82 931... but it's been on hold for a while as I go racing, and try to find room to work on the poor car... as I also have a full GTR bodykit for it, 951 IC, etc. I'm aiming for about the same boost range as GTO, possibly as high as 20 if I can get there... _________________ Vaughan Scott
