Hey all..
Sorry for not being around much but I have been over loaded with work lately..
Not much happened since my last visit.. The engine is out, the core plug is which caused the problem is now visable.. I will clean up all of the engine really well and get it looking smart again, fix the odd small problems here and there slowly and get it in 100% top shape.. then when all the brakes and suspension arrive, which should be quite soon, ill fit them in and then dump the engine back in and see how it goes
The oil pan is looking extremly shiny after only 5 mins work with a wire brush, then some brake fluid and then some penetrating oil.. What is best to clean up all the other bits and pieces while the engine is out and half in pieces..
Anything big and new around here? Any eye opening projects going on?
Hope everyone is well..

Carb cleaner works better than brake cleaner to dissolve the varnish.
Hand dish detergent also works pretty well. _________________ Vaughan Scott

With oven cleaner use EasyOff with out the lemon scent. Caution, do not leave it on for more than 3 min. at a time. Use multiple sprayings. It will etch the metal. Ask me how I know.
Go to the Suspension Section of this site for a full procedure on how to use it to clean wheels. Same method. It is an article on polishing alum wheels to look like chrome. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

...And might I add, STAY AWAY from a product called "Super Clean." It dissolves aluminum and leaves a crusty cake on everything else. And it doesn't get anything "super clean." _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

Thanks for the suggestions guys.. really appreciated.. I will get to work on cleaning it all up this weekend and if you want I will post some pics of the end result..
One thing that I have not really looked into but confused me is:
Silly me forgot to drain the oil when I took the engine out.. now oil keeps pooling on the floor which looks like it is coming out close to the front.. its not from the dipstick hole.. To be honest I only saw it when I walked past the engine in the garage today.. I didnt have time to even look at where it could be coming from.. but you guys have any pointers?
Cheers! _________________ When the checkered flag drops... The Bull$hit Stops

Pardon the Hi-jack but I was wondering if you guys ever use a product called Seafoam? I've used it before in the gas tank and also by sucking it in through the vacuume lines. Does this actually clean the carbon off of the pistons or does it just give you a really cool blue smoke effect?
My next question is: Is there anything that works better?
Thanks in advance.

Hey morghen,
Unfortunately nothing really new up with the car, soon everything will start to take shape though, since the engine is out I am taking the opportunity to clean it up really nicely and also I will change the odd bit here and there that needed attention, Once the nice big brakes and suspension arrive from our fellow boardie nemises I will fit them and then dump the engine back in. After that it will be straight to the exhaust guy, then up for a quick tune and all the other bits and pieces will be fitted.. Until I get the right wheels I will run on some which I have in the garage from the 928 (the dish rims) but I will start looking for some nice beefy wheels once the brake package arrives.. my only problem right now is on this stupid island I cannot find any insurance what so ever! :s
I plan on getting the engine clean and neat enough to eat off..
Also I will build my own front lights for it (the design will be something completly different) and they will replace the pop up lights.. If all goes according to plan I hope it will be one of the coolest custom 924's around
Sorry Druman, I have never used seafoam, I tried a few other products today and the best result is still a combo of brake fluid and right after penetrating oil.. once the penetrating oil is on, I am using a drill with a wire brush hooked up to it and it seems to be getting most things looking great.. and best of all, it takes hardly any elbow grease _________________ When the checkered flag drops... Sparky, how much did you pay for the Lambo-door conversion? Tha's gotta be the coolest 924 mod I've ever seen.
