I see the NYT is living up to their usual standards of excellence in automotive journalism.

Well, perhaps you'd like to drop a line to the "expert" quoted in the article:

Jim Schrager
james.schrager@gsb.uchicago.edu
54722 Little Flower Trail
Mishawaka, IN 46545
574-258-4500

He's a 356 guy. . .and no offense to anyone here, but if anything is more uber-lame than some garage queen, over-priced, swing axle, beetle-inspired, rattling & leaking little 356, I don't know what it is.

Yeah. I liked how he says it is a "pretend porsche" and it was never meant to be a porsche, but then goes onto say that PORSCHE DESIGNED it for volkswagen. Yes, he is partially correct, but I would say it was to be a pretend VW. Well anyway, way to bash our cars.... Also, he forgot to mention that US regulations are partially to blame for it's poor performance in the US.

Guys like this don't even own a Porsche. I have had at least two since 1969. As you all know I have a 911 Targa but I like to drive the 924s more than the 11. Don't get me wrong, I like the 11 it is just I am more familar with the 924s. At one time I had 5 Porsche at the same time.
It is good to be King.

My first Nine was a new '69.

Journalists decide on what they want to say first, then select the facts to fit their message. I've seen articles from the same motor journalist (who shall remain nameless, though you all know him) on the same subject saying two completely different things. One for, one against.

Bull shit,

porsche and vw were ahead of time, they shared resources and parts long before ferrari added blinker switches from a fiat 500 into a 308GTS.Even in the new lambos you have the same Dashboard as in an A6 Audi......

And, the 924 was build at least in Germany / the first ones in Neckarsulm(audi-plant).The boxster is build completly in Finnland!!(Valmet)

Ok, i calm down......

Basically, we've got to expect this kind of stuff. After all, let's face it, the 924 is the bargain basement Porsche.

Having said that, badge snobbery aside, the 924 is a damn fine car when looked at objectively;at least the equal of some of the stuff the journos rave over (e.g. Golf GTi).

The GTi Golf is a good car, but it's no 924!

damn well said !!
and yes Mike924 any other car is any other car but not the 924.
I have friends with newer more expensive and faster cars who envy me for the looks of my car...for the driving experience...the very confortable position of the 924....and how well a 24 years old car looks and drives !

i bet that if that asshole who wrote the article would take a ride in my car...or any other good condition 924...would never say anything against the 924.

Here Here Morghen! Yes Nobbi!

And now that Paris Hilton is hitching around I`d bet a 6 pack of condoms she`d jump in the 924 if it stopped at the same time as a VW 356 or any golf!
